    Plans vs imagination —Kevin Wilson
Here's a loaded question... I see a lot of posts asking for instructions or pictures of how to build a <insert item here>. Not just ideas, but actual step-by-step instructions. Is it just me, or does this seem like a contradiction of the idea behind (...) (25 years ago, 23-May-99, to lugnet.general)

Instructions...hmm... One nice thing about instructions is that I can sit down and midlessly snap bricks together and have a model form. This is very relaxing; although I do have to remind myself to build slowly. Another nice thing about (...) (25 years ago, 23-May-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I think this is of *major* importance. As an adult (such as I am), "discovering" good building technique may be a little easier. As a child, having step-by-step instructions showed me building techniques that prevented me from having to (...) (25 years ago, 26-May-99, to lugnet.general)

I grew up with sets with the step by step instructions, but now I mostly buy the bulk buckets, and when I do buy a set it is generally just for the pieces (sometimes I don't even build it).          Re: Plans vs imagination —Gary R. Istok
I agree with Kevin and Silas. Back in the 60's (when I was a child), I remember getting the Junior Constructor set #717, for Christmas. The only instructions were on the inside of the box top. It was a 500 piece set, and there were only 3 pictures (...) (25 years ago, 24-May-99, to lugnet.general)

I think LEGO is for everyone. Engineers, artists and those who just enjoy building following instructions. I enjoy building in either mode. The object is to "play well".    (...) Certainly, but instructions can enable you to come up with your own creations. Often, one might not know building techniques shown in the instructions, and might not be able to guess those techniques from a shot of the outside. Once you (...) (25 years ago, 24-May-99, to lugnet.general)
