Give Brad a break-- he *is* the Senior VP of LD after all.  That he even takes
the time to post here instead of having someone else do it is remarkable
enough...

I guess that was part of my point John.  He does post, but doesn't seem to
have time to follow-up on any issues that get raised.  It's not that he
needs to reply to each and every single response (many of his posts draw in
excess of 100 replies).  But there are sometimes questions that come up that
never ever seem to get answered.  Perhaps if Brad is too busy to follow-up
then he could appoint someone to do so on his behalf.  This wouldn't involve
a lot of time, maybe a couple of hours a week or even a couple of hours per
posting that he makes.  I don't think this request is unreasonable.  After
all, he *seems* to want our opinions but sometimes our opinions can't be
finalized until some follow-up information is known.

In my response to the recent question about "What Makes a Legend?" I had a
specific question about some wheels to which Brad was referring.   This made
some difference to the answer that responded to his question.

I am interested in knowing if
they hear these comments.

Absolutely!  Why would you suppose that they have decided to reissue
Metroliners, Guarded Inns, Cypress trees, and the like??  Directly from >
feedback from AFOLs, here and in person.

That's all well and good.  But what about their customers who aren't AFOL's?
Is LEGO Direct only marketing to people over 18?

I'm interested in knowing 'who' hears these
comments.  And I'm always interested in knowing how to get more and more
comments heard. Few companies in the world have the direct access to their
clients and the parents of their clients that the LEGO company has.  I only
want to try and help them to use this communications channel more
effectively.  I'm not trying to be a pain in the neck, honestly.  I know it
seems that way sometimes.  I just cannot figure out why the company doesn't
tap this incredible resource more deeply.

Real communication in a forum such as this is clumsy and time-consuming at >best.
That is why LD has invited selected AFOLs to go to NYC to meet with them *in
person* to provide feedback in a more conventional and effective manner-- test
market groups if you will. Brad has also shown up at events such as Brickfest >to engage in dialog as well.

That's great... as long as you're one of those "selected AFOLs".  But what
about adult customer or parents who don't fit into the AFOL mold?  How are
their needs being addressed?

Nothing LEGO Direct has release thus far interests me in the slightest.
Actually, let me correct that... the sculpture series is nice, but they are
so over-priced I will never afford one when you include exchange, shipping
and duty.

So when Brad tosses out a question, you can be assured that he reads the
responses and the discussions carefully.  The more completely we present our
cases here in this forum, the more feedback we offer, the more we express our
visions for TLC, the more LD will be able to produce products that we desire >to purchase.

If you have read one or all of my posts in the past 3 or 4 months, you know
that I have gone to extreme lengths to explain my own point of view. I do
not claim to speak for any particular group or market sector, only myself.
But I do try to make strong cases for issues that I believe to be important
to both the company and customers like me.

As far as utilizing this forum more, IMO LD has done a great job of exploiting
this resource.  And the resulting financial success of LD *will* make the TLC
sit up and take notice (as they have begun to already).

And once again my argument is that for LEGO Direct to be as successful as
possible, they need to communicate more effectively with both AFOLs and
adults who are not part of this community but are spending good money on
their products.

So take heart.  I have a feeling we are in for some amazing things from LD in
the future:-)

John, please know that my heart is entirely with this company.  I wish them
incredible success.  I wish I could walk into my local Zeller's store today
and see an entire aisle of LEGO... not one that is 1/2 LEGO and 1/2
Megablocks.  I wish that I could receive the Shop At Home catalog and feel
as though I had some sense of wonder.  I want to be dazzled and amazed.  I
have high standards, but it's only because I've seen this company do
better... much better.

As a loyal and long-time customer, I worry that they are a ship adrift
without a rudder... or a map.

Regards,
Allan B.
