Kyle, you're not alone.

What I find interesting (and very telling in a certain way) is that NO ONE
that I've ever met, child or parent has referred to them as "Lego bricks."
They (and I for the purposes of not wanting to come off as some kind of
weird snob) have always call them "Legos."  Only until I joined this group
did I hear the argument that "You should always refer to them as Lego
bricks."

IMHO, this discussion has always resembled the silly bickering among Star
Trek fans about being called "Trekkers" as opposed to "Trekkies."  People,
it's a hobby.  Let's try not to take it too seriously.  It takes the fun out
of it, and that's what we're here for, right?

[FUT it where ya want it]

Barely 2 weeks ago I posted this simple message because I thought
it was funny:

There are now about 255 messages that all trace back to my post
(if you track through the busted threads).  Most of it ended up
in .off-topic.debate, thankfully.  Heavy stuff!  Man, now I
know why I stay out of there.

Does anyone on LUGNET talk about LEGO anymore??  :]

I'm not sure if I'm proud that "I started this" or not.  But
since typing this is keeping me away from a report I have to
write, I guess I'm okay with it  ;]

I think in my next post I'll mention about how vintage LEGO
sounds "creakier" than new LEGO, thus spawning an 867
message-long thread which utimately results in the United
Nations being disbanded  :]

Now people probably want to come over and bust all my LEGO  :]

actually, I would feel sort of proud....your original post spawned people
to chat into several "taboo" topics such as....<gasp>....race....and <another
gasp> religion....
they are "taboo" (IMO), because the topics are have deep meaning and
deep sentimental value to a lot of people....
great job....
maybe we'll see your input at a rtlToronto get-together or something like
that....or do you go to the MICHLug group???
