  8x16 baseplate colors?

Does anyone know if the 8x16 baseplate was ever made in light gray or black? Also, what (if any) is the general feeling about cutting baseplates for custom sizes? Normally I am against altering parts, but I am seriously considering cutting a 8x19 (...) (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

Jay said... Normally I am against altering parts, but I am seriously (...) You have mine, one of my mottoes is 'any element that is still commercially available is just plastic. Good plastic, but just plastic.' Psi (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

Don't do it!!! Besides if you do, don't cut an odd number of studs!!! Blasphamy!! (...) (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

  Re: 8x16 baseplate colors?

(...) 8x16 has been made in light gray. Don't cut a 50x50 plate though, get a more recent one (48x48) and cut from that. The 50x50's are rare now. James (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

There are two light gray 8*16 baseplates in set 6363 Auto Repair Shop. I wouldn't cut up baseplates either. I once cut a straight road track in two, I regret it! Rick. (...) (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

  Re: 8x16 baseplate colors?

(...) IIRC, I read an assertion somewhere on LUGNET that 16x16, 16x32 and maybe other size baseplates are actually manufactured by TLC by cutting up 32x32 baseplates. So you'll only be replicating what may happen anyway. Chris (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

set 1351 has a gray 8x16 baseplate. It's not cheap, but imho it's better than cutting. :) (...) (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

  Re: 8x16 baseplate colors?

(...) Yea, I've made that assertion before. If you look at any baseplate which is smaller than 32x32, you will usually find that the edges have two appearances. One is the same appearance as that of a 32x32 baseplate. The others have white streaks, (...) (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Cutting "Moon surface" baseplate? (Was: 8x16 baseplate colors?)

After reading your replies, I think I have decided on a compromise of sorts. I’m not going to cut a custom 8x19 piece, because it does not exist. But since a 8x16 light gray baseplate does, I’m going to cut out one of those. I’m not going to cut my (...) (23 years ago, 3-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

  Re: 8x16 baseplate colors?

(...) I have a couple of small grey baseplates that I think might be 8x16. I'll try to remember to check when I get home. Don't cut up the 50x50! I'll trade you the 50x50 for the two small baseplates if you want. --Bill. (23 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

(...) I dunno if I'd say "super rare", but I have none in my collection. I wouldn't mind trying to salvage yours and would be more than happy to trade you a 48x48 for it. :) -JDF (23 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Cutting "Moon surface" baseplate? (Was: 8x16 baseplate colors?)

(...) Note that Brasso takes off permanent marker pretty good, of course I think the area inside the craters is somewhat textured so it may be more work, but I agree, cut up a 48x48 baseplate before you cut up anything else. (23 years ago, 4-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

Re: Cutting "Moon surface" baseplate? (Was: 8x16 baseplate colors?)

(...) Well it's done! Today I went out and got a new 48x48 baseplate and used it to cut a 8x16 light gray baseplate. Thanks to everyone for your replies, comments and ideas, they helped me decide what to do. I think I will try to clean up my old (...) (23 years ago, 6-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)
