See Frank I would call an AFOL!! I think Frank proves my point that there is
a difference between being enthusiastic about LEGO the product (and building
stuff), and then just being an enthusiast of building using LEGO. Don't get
me wrong, I don't see anything wrong with either by no means. I think it's
pretty impressive to see some of the large collections that some people
have. But if you came to my house you'd find very few unopened sets, and the
ones you would find are the few that I just haven't gotten around to sorting
out yet.

There was a time when I "collected" and watched every move of TLC, looking
for new catalog pictures, finding old sets and any other propaganda I could
get my hands on. But I then realized that I was focusing my energy away from
what I really wanted to be doing, and that was building. I'm not a collector
by nature (don't look in my attic), I just like to make things and I believe
LEGO is by far the best product to do so with. It gives me massive flexibly
with my designs and at the same time challenges me to stay with in certain
boundaries with my creations....very cool all around and that's what I think
the hobby of LEGO building is all about. And that is one of the main reasons
for the North Georgia LEGO Train Club, it's to get together with other
people who like to build, show off what we have built and teach others how
great it is to build stuff. I'm not there to sell TLC's products, I'm there
to encourage others to learn the joy of building with LEGO....of course if
TLC sells some bricks in the process, then so be it.

So I would say that an AFOL is a collector/builder/historian, while others
are just builders.

Yeah I know it's a long rant, but hey it's late and I've had a few beers :)

When I hear the word "Fan" I think of 14 y/o girls with rooms covered in
N'Sync posters. I do not have my room covered in LEGO bed sheets or, big • red
logos on the walls. I read LUGNET to share ideas and see how others are
using the bricks to build their creations.

Actually, the first thing which comes to my mind when one is talking
about fans are sports fans. I also have to say that just about every
pastime I have ever been connected with, most people consider themselves
fans.

Of course I'm pretty fanatic. Just take a look at the pictures of my
apartment:

Complete with LEGO posters on the walls, LEGO stacked everywhere. Ok, so
I don't use the LEGO towel, but I've got one. I've been looking at their
cargo system, I need a nice LEGO bag for traveling to gatherings...
