This brings about an interesting question that has been lingering in the
back of my mind for awhile now.

Are the majority of AFOLs geeks?  Or... more to the point...

What variety of occupations/interests does the Lugnet community and AFOLs in
general represent?

I for instance... am a geek... I am a Development Manager responsible for
eCommerce personalization. Prior to becoming a manager I was the technical
lead.  Pretty classical geek stuff.

What do others in the community do?

I'm an aeronautical engineer, by my education. I was a "Rocket
Scientist" (really..:-) for the first two years of my carrier, I decided
that I didn't want to spare my job hours in front of a workstation by
coding simulation programs, and I went to army for my conscription of
1.5 years (an obligation for every male citizen in Turkey) then after
that I changed my carrier by taking the position of production engineer
in a supplier company specialized in manufacturing copper/aliminum
tubular parts for refigiraton and air conditioning industry. Now I'm
making my money from a much more suitable job for me (in close relation
with mechanisms and machinery, with dirt and lubricants everywhere..:-).

Am I a geek? I don't know exactly. I'm very interested in finding out
answers to the questions that start with how, why, what the heck, ..etc.
but my job is not my life style. And although I was quite deep into
computers in the past, now most of the time that I spend in front of
them is for CAD (at job) and internet surfing/playing games (at home).
But still I have two computers at my home both built by myself from the
parts, and I still don't consider buying a prepackaged ready to run
brand name one...:-)
