Re: Need help deciding: 8480 or 8880 ?

(...) As of Thursday morning, there were 14 copies of 8480 at a local TRU. This number has been virtually unchanged for over a month. Too bad they're still at full price. :( Jeff (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: blacktron I hose color variation

(...) The hoses you have received may have come from 6882 Walking Astro Grappler. (URL) 6941 *should* have come with yellow hoses w/ black ends. I would suspect that the seller substituted the hoses for some reason. Duane (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Okay... I'm lost here.

(...) I always thought that "microfig scale" refered to anything that was too small for Minifigs. Jeff (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

  blacktron I hose color variation

i recently acquired a blacktron I battrax (6941) in used condition and the hoses that came with the set were translucent as opposed to the opaque hoses pictured in the instructions. it isn't a big deal, i'm just curious if some of these sets (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: Numbers and Letters set, anyone get this?

Yes, that would be sets 487 & 987 for the letters, and 488 & 988 for the numbers (the 400 series came in early/mid 60's, the 900 series came late 60's-early 70's). All of these sets were printed on 1x1 white bricks. I've got both of the number sets (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

  ThrowBots elements are cool

(...) Because it *is* Technic, my friend! :) (...) Don't the new ball & socket elements count? It's a whole new form of 3D polar-coordinate movement. (...) 'ay, have you built any of the models yet? Not only are the new elements fully (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

On Sun, 31 Jan 1999 21:30:34 GMT, Laurentino Martins uttered the following profundities... (...) Tough one. Isn't it typical that you have to choose between the two best Technic sets? I guess to determine which is most desired, is to decide which (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

RE: Numbers and Letters set, anyone get this?

Hmmm. I have an old set of letters and numbers (incomplete now) that were stamped on the sides of white 1x1 elements. I understand about the need for a "pure" LEGO solution, but it's amazing what a bit of Letraset or even an inkjet printer on sticky (...)   Re: Numbers and Letters set, anyone get this?

(...) Hey Larry, We can split a set of these, if you'd like? I am working on building a few 1920's Movie Palaces, and these letters would be great for using on a large marquee. Let me know if you're interested. Gary Istok (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

Re: Need help deciding: 8480 or 8880 ?

Since I have both, I would say that the 8480 is better part-wise. Many more gears than the 8880, and the 8480 also has 2 motors. HOWEVER, if you have the choice right now, get the 8880 ... the supplies are dwindling fast (especially for an unopened (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: TLG == Lego ? "Yes" : "No"

(...) Spend some time at the Shell website -- it's a very weird experience. They don't even pretend to present an image of a single operating corporation (like TLG does). Apparently, there are *hundreds* of Shell companies. Many of them are shell (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: Sorry to tell you this....Throwbots.

(...) And RTL is full of "Looking for Throwbot XXX...XXX" crap. I think I've seen all of the TB sets on local store shelves in the last few days. If anyone is crazy enough to be 'collecting' these sets, I'm willing to help out. Just $10 +shipping (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: Numbers and Letters set, anyone get this?

(...) Thanks. Construction Site ((URL) has them as well, same price, per an offline note I received from Crispin and I'd rather give them the biz... but I can't decide if I need them badly enough to spend 40+ bucks given that they're huge. ++Lar (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

Re: Need help deciding: 8480 or 8880 ?

(...) That's just a decision based on availability, not on the sets' merits. Personally, I'd take the 8480, because it's such an ingenious and beautiful model. More funky general-purpose parts too. 8880's just a big car. (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: Need help deciding: 8480 or 8880 ?

(...) 8880. Snap it up now. Those are getting pretty scarce. 8480 is still available at times, but the 8880 is just about gone. -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Okay... I'm lost here.

(...) Well, that's a relief. (...) The scale itself is not fixed, per se. It's really very arbitrary. I suppose the Micromachines example was valid; the MM Star Wars Imperial Death Star is the same length as the MM Aliens APC. One's big enough to (...) (26 years ago, 1-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)
