Since I have both, I would say that the 8480 is better part-wise. Many more
gears than the 8880, and the 8480 also has 2 motors.
HOWEVER, if you have the choice right now, get the 8880 ... the supplies are
dwindling fast (especially for an unopened one). And you might find a deal on
the 8480 somewhere ...

Just a big car???? You have to admit it's pretty cool. Though more 'Lego'
than the new 8448. (I'm talking about the body)
I would say that the 8480 is technically better than the 8880, since there
is a definite form that the 8480 has to comply to, and the gearing with
the switch plates is VERY cool, and compact. Contrast that to the 8880,
where you have a lot of room to place stuff, and there is no definite car
shape that it's modeled after (though it looks close to a Diablo).
