  Hello & introduction

I've been reading the LUGNET groups for a few weeks now and thought it's time to say Hi. I'm 40, always loved Lego as a kid in the UK and have played with my daughter's sets at intervals over the years, but for some reason this Xmas I just got (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: To quote a scholar

(...) Lego seems to trying to play toy-world domination recently at the expense of their core product line. Some examples... RC Car - LEGO takes on Tyco & Nikko Znap - LEGO takes on K-Nex Duplo Winnie the Pooh - LEGO takes on various Disney (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  LEGO Competition? Nah.

Well, I'm home from work taking care of my sick gf, (I don't get sick, so I figure I might as well use those sick days for /something/), so you all get the benefit of some ramblings from my diseased mind. On the way home from the clinic, we passed a (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  old lego sticker album?

Hi recently when I digged through my bookshelf I found an old Lego sticker album. There is no stickers in it. I have no idea what year it was printed. On the cover there's a picture of an old space theme probably from the 80's and on top of that it (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: gender changers?

The subject is under discussion in lugnet.build, which I would posit as a better group. The 1x1 with side stud is capable of changing direction in just slightly larger than 1x2 brick space. (it technically takes two of them plus a 1x1 plate) (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build)

Re: Public Praise for Jasper Janssen

(...) Seconded. Jasper and I did a Metroliner for RCX deal that went off without a hitch (except that he got hit with VAT on the RCX, sigh) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: To quote a scholar

(...) Well, I agree about LEGO becoming more "toy" oriented than "construction" oriented. When I was a kid, LEGO sets that built specific models were far and away the exception -- not the norm. Now it is completely inverted. "Freestyle" sets, as (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  To quote a scholar

My mad scientist friend (we've all got them, haven't we?) - a PHd student in robotics and robot design and college lecturer in Maths - had this to say after we were comparing the classic 691 Rescue Helicopter (my first set) with the pap that Lego (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: 5600 (Radio Control Racer)

Mark Dittenber wrote in message <369AD087.954C08E3@c...et.com>... (...) This car probably isn't what you want then. I played with one over the holidays, as my brother (who is 7) received it as an xmas present. It was great for him, but not something (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  8880 Super Car ... =? Diablo?

I finally got my 8880 Super Car, and after I was finished, I brought it into my office. Currently at my office, I have a model of the Diablo. After looking at the two, it appears that the base shape of both are EXTREMELY similar. Of course with (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

Steve Bliss wrote in message <369b510b.4248718@lu...et.com>... (...) Looks like this is an American minifig, holding two jobs, time-sharing his assets. Eric (Responses to lugnet.off-topic.deb...e.culture) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: US S@H Phone Specials 1/11/99 - 1/17/99

And here I thought my FOTW was upstaged by S@H. My wife found an 8277 at Walmart for $20. The box had been opened, but not the bags inside. What was really amazing to me is that my non-Lego wife actually bought this for me despite here general (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: US S@H Phone Specials 1/11/99 - 1/17/99

(...) Oooh e-mail me too. :) Or, Todd: can you set up a small mailing list just for people who want this via e-mail? It's one of the few things I'd like sent directly to my inbox. (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

Re: When is a set a set?

Steve Bliss writes: <<SNIP>>> (...) <<SNIP again>> IMHO: a set is a set when it has everything it says in the instructions. This is including the minifig(s)because they are clearly present in the instructions. Ergo: you have one complete set and one (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

When is a set a set?

OK, here is a zen question for the Set-Purists[1] to ponder: I bought a bag of lego at a garage sale. Among other things, it included pieces and instructions for two small sets. Both sets can be built (simultaneously) from the pieces in the bag, (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: US S@H Phone Specials 1/11/99 - 1/17/99

(...) Geez. First I missed the 6982, now this one. I'm really missing on these specials. Oh well. If they weren't good deals, they wouldn't sell out. Steve (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Wow, S@H is watching

(...) Yes, I noticed the new phone-menu system, too (there was something about what to do if you were calling for help with software). BTW, I've noticed the increased wait time over the last several months. I assumed it was the holidays. But it's (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: gender changers?

(...) Well, there is the 1x1 brick with a stud on each of its four sides. There were a few of these in RoboForce, I think the RoboMaster. Steve (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: US S@H Phone Specials 1/11/99 - 1/17/99

(...) Well, there is normally the way I used to be able to do it and normally the way I seem to manage to do it nowadays. Before I was put in charge of my office I could check right at 8am because, lucky me, I didn't have anything else to do (well, (...) (26 years ago, 12-Jan-99, to lugnet.general)
