    RulesTalk: Probes —John P. Henderson
Here's an interesting question... A player has emailed the GM requesting that his home sector send out a number of "Long Range Deep Space Probes." (The player is also an SM.) He has provided stats including high sensors and zero weapons. And these (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship)

        RE: RulesTalk: Probes —Jeffrey Shaw
I think that this is a good idea...I would like to see some limitations or restrictions on what they might be able to see or even a "system failure" possibility. As we all know, several SM's have a mystery in their sector, Sending in a probe could (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship)

Re: RulesTalk: Probes —John P. Henderson
(...) Based on what I am thinking for this topic, the SMs would still have full control over the mysteries of their sectors. If probes are given stats including a rating for sensors, then SMs could use that as a guide to what a probe might be able (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship)

Re: RulesTalk: Probes —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) My two cents (quickly--we've had a bit of craziness here so I'm late on SM emails, my work, and EVERYTHING) are that probes should be fine, if they are registered as ships--with brick models, images, the works. And it must be up to the SMs (...) (20 years ago, 31-Mar-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship)

Re: RulesTalk: Probes —John P. Henderson
(...) I think the reason I would vote in favor of not registering is the very thing you hint at in your first comment here. Probes are (or should be) rather disposable. (The player who want to use them currently has a write up with pics that say (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship)

        Re: RulesTalk: Probes —Dan Mattia
(...) -snip some- (...) Well, I think the following: Probes should only be allowed to send data, not interact with things. For instance, if it sees a valuable artifact or something, it must send the data back. It cannot go ahead and try to take the (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship, FTX)

Re: RulesTalk: Probes —John P. Henderson
The following is forward to .gaming.starship from SM/Player Avery Christy: Hello GM, I recently read a new thread on the Lugnet message board pertaining to the probes I sent out. Due to the schedule of events unfolding in the sector, I am operating (...) (20 years ago, 1-Apr-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship, FTX)

Welcome to Avery (Was: Re: RulesTalk: Probes) —Dan Mattia
(...) -snipped some- (...) We'll, in time, figure out a (hopefully) fair way of utilizing this new way of playing. As the game is new and members still small, we can't be able to have had the rules all done and complete when we first launched. Our (...)          Re: Welcome to Avery (Was: Re: RulesTalk: Probes) —John P. Henderson
(...) Oh yeah, Avery did give me this in his first email on the subject: (URL) details at the time: ---...--- The probes all have medium quality engines. ETA: Probe 1 -- about 2 weeks. Probe 2 -- 3 weeks. Probe 3 -- 3 weeks WEAPONS: None ARMOR: None (...) (20 years ago, 2-Apr-04, to lugnet.gaming.starship)
