Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) Mark- I think the LEGO gods have shone the light upon us for NMRA 2008 (July 13-20, 2008 at the Anaheim Marriott, 700 West Convention Way, Anaheim CA 92802). This event is walking distance to the LEGO store in Downtown Disney (and Angel (...) (19 years ago, 12-Dec-06, to lugnet.events, FTX)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

Some thoughts of mine: A proliferation of successfull events is good. A big thought on "the one big event": My experience with events encompasses LEGO fan events, Science Fiction conventions, church camps and events, train shows, National (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events)

  Brick Bash 2007!

(URL) Brick Bash 2007, the third installment of this annual event, will be taking place in March of 2007 in, as usual, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Exact dates will be announced soon. Don't let the weather scare you -- come on over, show off your LEGO (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events.brickbash, lugnet.events, FTX)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) Ok, so he didn't actually say Chicago was centrally located. However, he did say, in the quoted text above: "We decided to create Brickworld because there was no centrally located large AFOL event" Which I read as saying Brickworld was (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) Oooo...oooh. Well that makes sense I guess. I rather like this topic as it has been on my mind as well. The question I have is whether or not some fests have become too much expo and not enough convention. By this I mean, are we putting on (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events, FTX)

(...) um, please help me out here...NLSO? Steve - the slightly confused (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) Actually, I don't think he ever said Chicago was centrally located. He just suggested a gathering there would be more centrally located than a gathering on the east coast, or the west coast. It appears there are about 10 or 12 LEGO clubs (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) I'd like to respectfully disagree with your labeling of Chicago as 'centrally located.' This event is 18 hours away from me here in Houston. Brickfest in Arlington VA is 26 hours away from me. I drove that, didn't like it. Well, ok, so we did (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events, FTX)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) I too have a NLSO but I've gone to the past two Brickfests in DC, taking the boys (early teens) along both times. Last summer I also brought my dad, a NLfather. He went along to see some museums and such and help driving from Nashville. He was (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) You guessed it. Anniversary #1 is next week (and I don't have a gift yet!!!). Bruce (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events, FTX)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) You've got to be a newlywed or close to it ;) My wife is a NLSO and she has no problem with me leaving for a few days!(1) Felix (1) I love my wife (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events, FTX)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) It's been a combination of location and a NLSO. Now that I live in DC, hopefully I will be able to get to the next BF, if only for the public exposition. In the past when I was not near a fest, it's kind of hard to say "Well, honey, I love you (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) Why haven't you attended a fest? Seriously. Is it time? Location? Money? While more events doesn't help with the money, (except for cutting down travel-expenses), it can help with the correct time, or better location. As you said, these may (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

I actually have not yet been to a fest, so perhaps my input means less here, but I'm all for having multiple fests each year. To me it comes down to a simple question - do we have the same group of people, now diluted over multiple fests (and (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events, FTX)

Re: The proliferation of fests: Good or bad?

(...) The proliferation of fests is very similar to the proliferation of web homes. Once there was none and that was bad. Then there was lugnet, and that was good. But lugnet doesn't fit everyone's tastes and needs the same way. So perhaps the (...) (19 years ago, 11-Dec-06, to lugnet.events, FTX)
