Mixed DUPLO/System MOC (was Re: LEGO stops DUPLO)

Here's an MOC of mine that is a mixture of DUPLO and System elements: Brickenbloom House & Gardens: (URL) only does Brickenbloom include DUPLO parts, but the roof elements were actually the pieces that initially started me thinking about (...) There's a Lego Explore page up at lego.com with a bit of a blurb and a note to come back in early June. (URL) (22 years ago, 15-May-02, to lugnet.duplo)

  Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

(...) Don't worry all! The name and maybe a bit of the principles of Duplo may dissapear but the bricks have not. LEGO Explorer still contains sets with DUPLO blocks, however, Explorer does also contain some different types of toddler and baby toys. (...)   Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

While my interest in DUPLO is pretty small, the fact that Lego is dropping it is both encouraging and discouraging. Are they doing it to optimize their products for the current market? Or are they just writing off an old (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo)

  Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

(...) The only Megabloks TRU in Denmark has is the very big Megabloks for babies; they tried lately to sell some of the MB transformer sets, but had to put them on clearance at one third of the original price, as nobody bought them. I guess Danes (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.duplo)

  Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

(...) Just got back from Disney this weekend. The LIC (which is undergoing serious renovation, the entire outdoor are is cordoned off) has lots of *NEW* Duplo train stuff including cars with silver (not chrome) wheels and what I believe were sound (...) Man, I just got back into DUPLO® trains and now they want to discontinue the name! Hopefully they will keep the trains... Harvey Henkelman-Certified Ferroequinologist (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo)

Re: So what is "Explore" anyway? (Was Re: LEGO stops DUPLO)

(...) Sounds like rebranding, like they did with Basic a while back. Changes are always made to lines to make them popular. However, sometimes the marketing guys think they *need* to change the name. Jeff (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.duplo)

Re: LEGO stops DUPLO - PRESS RELEASE

Deidre, Thanks for posting the press release... I will be interested to see what Lego brings to the table in June. I wonder if Lego feels having sub-brands, such as Duplo, Primo, System, etc. dilutes the message and power of the main "LEGO" brand? (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo)

So what is "Explore" anyway? (Was Re: LEGO stops DUPLO)

(...) So now the question is: What's actually changing? The concepts behind "Explore" seem to be what Lego has always been pushing anyway, so is this merely a marketing change or is it really a "new system"? I guess the answer to this will come when (...)   Re: LEGO stops DUPLO - PRESS RELEASE

The press release has just appeared at lego.com, Duplo name is going but apparently the bricks themselves will remain: May 14 2002 LEGO DUPLO brand disappears - but bricks live on One of the fundamental changes in connection with the LEGO (...)   Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

My peers at work are all having babies lately. They are buying Megabloks, the really mega kind, probably because they are just cheaper. This is not a real poll, just alarming anecdote. Come to think of it, TRU has a heck of a lot more of that brand (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.duplo)

  Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

(...) I think that's a big part of the problem for Lego, there is a big second hand market for Duplo for precisely those reasons: It's very expensive new (significantly cheaper of late but still expensive overall), and once the kids grow out of it (...)   Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

Can anyone else confirm this story? My 19 month old daughter loves her Duplo bricks. She often gets frustrated with other toys and figures because they don't fit together! I can't imagine Lego dropping Duplo for another "system" of toys for (...) (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.duplo)

  Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

  Re: LEGO stops DUPLO

(...) Hmmmm, suspected this would be the case after the press release a couple of months ago: see (URL) and article linked off it.
