A request to those who have "switched over"

Hey all, After reading the many and varied responses to Mr. Chiles' recent post (to which I replied) I wanted to create my own post (and/or thread starter) to air some of the feelings that were stirred up in me. I let a few days pass to make sure (...) (17 years ago, 8-May-07, to lugnet.color)

To Bley or not to Bley...(was: Thank you for replying)

(...) I Pretty much sold off all of my collection on BrickLink over a couple of years period. But that wasn't because of the color change at all - that was just a coincidence that the color change occurred just as I was entering a mini-mid life (...)   Re: Thank you for replying

(...) Woah! Did you actually sell/trade/burn/give away your old greys and browns? Or do you just no longer build with them? How does your bley collection compare to what you used to have in old gray? I guess I ask because I'm still at the stage (...) (17 years ago, 23-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

  Re: Thank you for replying

(...) IMHO, it's not 'stupid.' Having just recently built a decent size MOC in only new light bley, I must admit that I am impressed with it on it's own. That is the key phrase - 'on it's own.' Since I have no more old grey to mix together and see (...) (17 years ago, 23-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

Re: Very old style LEGO MOC

(...) Hi Andreas, Using it for RACHAL may take quite some time (we have plans already for the next one) but if you'd like the MPD to play around with just drop me an email and I'll sent it across. Tim (17 years ago, 20-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

Re: Very old style LEGO MOC

Neat little racer, Tim. Very inspiring model for this idea or that idea (or another, different idea). And something for RACHAL... Andreas (17 years ago, 20-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

Re: Very old style LEGO MOC

(...) Thanks. I just think it's great that you can use LEGO to make LEGO so I had to do it :) Tim (17 years ago, 20-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

Re: Very old style LEGO MOC

Tim, That's really well done. You've captured the feeling of wood in plastic... not an easy task. Better still, you've captured the spirit of that old toy and that's even harder to do. Very cool. :) Allan B. (17 years ago, 20-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

  Very old style LEGO MOC

(URL) Based on this (URL) toy>. As we can clearly from the original see the colour change is nothing but a return to LEGO's basic colour pallette. Obviously this fits the "back to basics" approach of recent years so I think we finally have the real (...) (17 years ago, 19-Apr-07, to lugnet.build, lugnet.color, FTX) !!

  Yet Another Color List

As if there weren't enough of color lists, I've also made one myself.. This one is from an L3 user's point of view, that is L3Lab and L3P. So far, it lists colors from ldconfig and Lugnet Color Images Guide, but I may add other sources. For a user (...) (17 years ago, 15-Apr-07, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.color)

  Thank you for replying

Thank you so much to all who replied. Firstly I have to say I like new Lego colours like dark red and light yellow and I cant wait until more dark tan comes out. It helps Lego mocs to look more real to life. Truthfully I started using Lego again, (...) (17 years ago, 15-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) I've read of things like that, particularly (URL) this>. Other than that, not much. Next time I'm in a city bus, I'll try to remember to look at the ceiling to see if it's blay. (I seldom ride city buses) (...) I've read of just such a thing (...) (17 years ago, 12-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) Relax, Bob. Nobody's whining here or trying to change LEGO's course, IMHO. Seems to me, this has been a pretty constructive discussion about how to adapt to using the new colors. At least up until this point... (17 years ago, 11-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) I'm afraid that new colors are here to stay. Just like 4.5v (circa 1966) trains were replaced with 12v (circa 1969) trains and then 9v (circa 1991) replaced 12v, etc. No matter how much anyone here likes/loves the original colors, Lego is not (...)   Re: Its starting to happen...

What was the purpose of the LEGO colour change? Well, I think the whole thing was not initiated by TLC. I remember that not only LEGO parts changed their colours - there were some grey shade changes overall: some medicine packaging tubes, ceiling (...) (17 years ago, 11-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

  Re: Its starting to happen...

(...) Nah, there are some truly old in-store displays out there (I remember seeing images of a Classic Space version that someone had managed to obtain). The more recent wave, I believe, goes back to the debut of either Star Wars or Harry Potter, (...) (17 years ago, 11-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

Short reply Beware Re: Variety is the spice of life

Tommy, Todd, Tim and everyone else: I've snipped off the stuff from the beginning--it makes for too long a read. Apologies to all in advance. I agree with you all. It's tough to maintain a set color palette forever, and the UV shift over time can be (...) (17 years ago, 10-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

Long reply Beware Re: Variety is the spice of life

(...) There are very few things in life that I can consider myself as an expert, but the one thing is color matching and quality control of color in a manufacturing process and at the point of purchase. For 30 years I worked in a small paint (...) (17 years ago, 10-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)

Re: Variety is the spice of life

(...) I agree with this 100%. Random colour variation opens up opportunity to make more realistic models. A perfect example of this is Al Disley's (URL) terraced houses> where a consistent supploy of dark red would have left them looking far less (...) (17 years ago, 10-Apr-07, to lugnet.color, FTX)

Variety is the spice of life

To All, I would like to state my $0.02 on this color issue and perhaps open up a new dialog on the whole color variation issue. First, I agree that in the past the LEGO Company has done an outstanding job with keeping the color consistent from batch (...) (17 years ago, 10-Apr-07, to lugnet.color)
