Hello!

I'd never heard of an "onager" before

Onager: <gr.-lat.>: 1. half-donkey in South-West-Asia; 2. (hist.) Roman
throwing machine.

Says my dictionary. In German.
These Roman catapults were similar to my catapult. Well, I should say mine
is similar to their's :-)

a trebuchet is similar to a
catapult, but it works more on the lever principle rather than spring
tension.  Basically you put a really long arm on a pivot point, you hang a
huge weight (in olden days it was often a net full of boulders), and then
you either mount a "bucket" or hang a sling from a rope on the other end.
The operators have to hoist the weighted load into the air, and when they
drop it, the arm flips up, which causes the bucket or sling to whip up and
around at great spead (I believe slings work better, since they add another
means of increasing the overall speed of the projectile), launching large
heavy objects over great distances, neither of which a standard catapult can
really handle.  You can read more about all kinds of medieval projectile
launch devices at www.trebuchet.com.

Thanks for this explanation! I wasn't even aware of the term 'trebuchet'.
Maybe I should have searched after it in google instead of
http://dict.leo.org :-)

Unfortunmatelly the Technic suspension strut lets the catapult arm be very
steep. And I don't have a good idea for the bucket on end.
The Ewok catapult has a fairly useful bucket that you might want to
check out.

You are right, this catapult arm works well. But I don't like form parts
like this too much but try to find a 'real' LEGO solution.

Bye
Jojo
