ACAD comes in several flavors. The industrial strength ACAD is a monster,
but it can handle just about anything you can think of in a CAD. For those
who may not need all the bells and whistles there is ACAD Lite that is the
easiest to get off the ground. Its 3D is limited, but it is a far cry from
what we are using now in LEdit or text files. The last time I checked there
was a demo CD availiable, but be warned AutoCAD is designed for working CAD
applications, so, may be positivly revolting for ease of uses. All the ACAD
versions I have used will output DXF, in addition to the native DWG file
format. Release 13 and later (to the best of my knowledge) will also use
3DS formated files. As to the interchange with MAX I'm uncertain since R13
was the last update I payed for and MAX had not been released at that time.
If you have a chance to review them you will not be sorry.

| (to jump in, or to stay out. Decisions, decisions. Oh, what the heck.) Why wait for LDraw2 to come up with better ways to produce part-files? It would be *great* if LDraw2 can handle multiple source-file formats, but that's a different issue. I (...) (26 years ago, 16-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)
