I agree that MPD is a better format for sub-files, but the critical issue
for me is that LEdit has no way of handling MPD files.
Would it help if I added support for MPD files to LDAO's Editor & Modeller?

Sure!  But what kind of support?  Aside from "Open Subfile", I mean.

Well, you can currently edit MPD files -- if you have LDLite hooked up as
the viewer, it deals with the MPD issues.  Hmmm.  I haven't played around
with this very much, I should do so.

But I was thinking of a multi-window MPD editor, that would have one
edit/modeling window for each sub-file in the MPD.  Possibly with a subfile
list window, so you can open and close edit windows however you want.

Each edit window could have its own view window, showing just that subfile.

Any subfile operations (such as inline and open subfile) would look first
at the files in the MPD files before searching for the subfile on the hard
drive.

File operations (open and save) would automatically build/split the MPD in
memory.
