Funny you should mention that, I was at Conan's on Thursday and I
built a mine truck cab and chassis but didn't finish the dump body.

The dump body was the first thing I built :)

It has a V10 engine (2x2 rounds for cylinders), and a tilt platform to
cover the engine and front wheels and house a cab. (think of what the
classic Tonka Truck looks like) The platform is almost two minifigs
off the ground, it takes 3 ladder sections of ladder from the front • bumper
to the top. The radiator grille is 4 ladders wide and 2 high.

Where'd you fit the engine?  My steering mechanism and chassis are in the
way...  I am fitting in pneumatics to tilt the dump body though.

Front wheels steer, rear wheels have a differential.

I don't have room for a differential... the rear wheels are only four
studs apart  (Doesn't look as outrageous as it sounds)

One in front, dualies in back. (thought about 2 axles for the
rear but decided one was enough)

Same here.

5571 tires IMHO have a tread pattern that is a bit too "on road" for a
mine truck. These tires have a nice knobby pattern.

Well, the 5571 tires are the biggest ones I have.  On the mine truck,
they don't look as on-road as on the 5571 :)
