OK, I think I tracked down the cause of the problem. It may take awhile to
fix, though. I am currently doing something you're not supposed to do:
making OpenGL calls without first telling Windows that I am going to make
OpenGL calls. This apparently works fine with the nVidia OpenGL drivers,
but it does NOT work with the Microsoft Software OpenGL driver, and it
probably won't work with some vendor drivers. I now need to go in and track
down all the places I do this and fix them. I made some minor changes here
at work which got me far enough to at least produce an image, but there are
serious problems still to work out. I can at least test here at work on a
software-only machine. I'll release a fixed version as soon as I can.
