By way of example, here's exactly how my
LDRAWDIR is set:

set LDRAWDIR=d:\ldraw

Do you see anything after the command help?  Here's what I get when I put a
space in my LDRAWDIR setting:

L3P v1.1 19981221  (C) 1998 Lars C. Hassing  lch@cci.dk
Usage: l3p [options] modelpath [povpath] [options]
  [...yadda...snippage...yadda...]
If povpath is not specified or is a directory, it will be modelfilename + .pov
See also l3p.txt and http://www.netby.net/Nord/Mandelvej/Hassing/l3p.html
*** Environment variable LDRAWDIR must be set to directory with P,PARTS,MODELS.
e.g.  'set LDRAWDIR=c:\Lego\Ldraw'       (don't use long names)
You may type the set command at the DOS prompt or put it into AUTOEXEC.BAT

When my LDRAWDIR is set properly, the line with the *** and everything after
disappears.

place?  I'm using the dos edit and then editing c:windows\command\ebd\autoexec.bat
is this the right file?
