I had to get something out before Brickworld —Kevin L. Clague
Hi gang, With a tremendous amount from Travis Cobbs, I managed to get a version of LPub 4 ready for an alpha release. I wanted to get something out in time for Brickworld, because I'm presenting it there. I'll need Travis to let you know where to (...) (16 years ago, 10-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad)

Re: I had to get something out before Brickworld —Philippe Hurbain
Hi Kevin, (...) I was brave enough to create this ((URL) - based on this set: (URL) in a very short time... But many menus (such as the ones to setup page size or change images scale) are empty. Is it something to be expected for this alpha release? (...) (16 years ago, 11-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad)

Re: I had to get something out before Brickworld —Kevin L. Clague
(...) No, this is not supposed to happen. Are you talking about the menus in the main menu bar, or popup menus? The menu items in the configuration menu in the mail title bar should pup up dialogs to allow you to edit related topics using a larger (...) (16 years ago, 11-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad)

Re: I had to get something out before Brickworld —Travis Cobbs
Never mind. I'm pretty sure that the answer is that you do have the VC++ 2008 runtime libraries installed, because when I install them, LPub works. Anyone else that can't get LPub to launch can download the runtime libraries from Microsft here: (...) (16 years ago, 11-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad)

(...) Please let us know which LDView versions works best once the Mac LPub alpha is available. I haven't had much luck at all with any of the pre-release versions of either program I've tried recently. Jim (16 years ago, 11-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad)

Re: I had to get something out before Brickworld —Philippe Hurbain
(...) You seem to be right. I tried LPub4 on a XP machine with VC++2008, and on a W2k one without it, it works in both cases. Philo (16 years ago, 12-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad)

Re: I had to get something out before Brickworld —Travis Cobbs

Re: I had to get something out before Brickworld —Kevin L. Clague
(...) I demo-ed LPub 4 for about an hour and a half at Brickworld. I feel the process went very well. There were lots of great questions and suggestions. Paul Smith Meyer, of LEGO, was present for much of the demonstration. I've always been curious (...) (16 years ago, 23-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad) !

I missed your presentation this weekend, but it sounded interesting. A friend of mine who lives in Chicago came to BrickWorld that day and we went to lunch, which was when you had your sessions. I too have wondered how LEGO made its instructions in (...)           Re: I had to get something out before Brickworld —Kevin L. Clague
(...) Originally, the building instruction team had a huge building with a table for each step with the parts for that step assembled on the table. They photographed the assembly, and then "cartoonized" the picture. It was a huge process. I don't (...) (16 years ago, 24-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad)

--snip-- (...) Ironically I've met some mathematicians who worked with TLG on this problem about five years ago. Their conclusion of "it can't be done" seems to be holding out still. I'll stick to LPub and (now less) elbow grease. Tim (16 years ago, 25-Jun-08, to lugnet.cad)

(...) I've gotta say that from the demo, this is amazing. I don't see the Mac version out there and didn't think to ask you for it whilst hanging this weekend. Can you email it or post it?
