Mecha - What do you need?

When setting out to "Make a Mech".....What 5 things do you need when building? What is it your looking for when you set your pieces out and begin building? (...) 0. A good CD in the player or a great movie in the dvd to keep me entertained! 1. A mental or sketched plan with some internet research so I can figure out the scale of the build. 2. A color pallete, I tend to gravitate towards greys and (...) (22 years ago, 13-Mar-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: Mecha - What do you need?

(...) Nice! I like it when posts like this show up. These are in order of my 'needs'. 1) Music- Usually something with a definitive beat to help keep the creative juices flowing. 2) A clean workspace- Without a cleaned off table and chair, the best (...) (...) 1. Lego bricks 2. Uninterrupted time. 3. A build up of rest and nourishment, because I'll just keep building. 4. Music. Lots of music. 5.   Re: Mecha - What do you need?

Thanks for all the great replies! I too build in much the same manner. Let me clarify, Specifically what kinds of parts do you use when building Mecha, and or types of peices would you like more of? e (...) (22 years ago, 14-Mar-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: Mecha - What do you need?

(...) I'd like to see the "Super Battle Droid" clickwheel hinge in more colours. It comes in black/dark grey in the Exo-Toa Armor-- let's get it in red/yellow/"real" blue/light grey too!   Re: Mecha - What do you need?

(...) I use 1 x 2 handle plates, 1 x 1 vet and horz clip plates, neck brackets (just started using thanks to SW Minis and Kotaro), I use alot of 1 x 2 plates, and those headlight / camera bricks. t (22 years ago, 14-Mar-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: Mecha - What do you need?

(...) well, most of my mecha are under 6 inches tall so: Taps - I can't stress enough how useful I find these things for small hip and shoulder joints.   hinge question (was Re: Mecha - What do you need?)

(...) How do you rate those things, particularly in comparison to ball joints? I've been looking at that set for a while, but all I really want are the hinges so I can't really justify it even at the AU$45 I can get it for now. Are they any good? (...)   Re: Mecha - What do you need?

(...) 1- Music....Soft rock for medium-sized mechs, hard for the big boyz, rap for the lights, techno works for heavy/medium :<P 2- An overcast day always seems to make me way more creative.   Re: Mecha - What do you need?

Plate Click Hinge, strong, very attachable, very hidable, hole in center good! Technic arm joint (super battle droid, UCS Naboo fighter stand) Also good, not as strong, axle hole and shape of core make a little awkward to use. Liking the plates with (...) Hmmm...I agree with most other replies, but my creative process really takes off when I follow this pattern... --I'm not inspired by Japanese Cartoons, though they ARE cool... --I'm not a huge fan of "forward" knees (like on a human), unless (...)   Re: hinge question (was Re: Mecha - What do you need?)

(...) I'd prefer these to ball joints, given the choice. The latter are just to weak to support any weight without some extra stiffening, IMO. Now.... I used balljoints for NekoII's ankles, basically supporting her whole frame, but I restricted the (...) (22 years ago, 15-Mar-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)

Re: Mecha - What do you need?

(...) AH! So that's what you meant! Alrighty then, here's the list: 1) More Throwbot gearboxes - (URL) These are SOOOO important and now they seem to be in very short supply. 2) More SBD rotation joints.
