Hmmm...I agree with most other replies, but my creative process really takes
off when I follow this pattern...
--I'm not inspired by Japanese Cartoons, though they ARE cool...
--I'm not a huge fan of "forward" knees (like on a human), unless it's a
well-designed 'Mech, like the Thor from Mech Assault
--I have a very narrow selection of "traditional" mech pieces
Therefore:
I LOVE small, powerful, rough&tough, reverse-legged 'Mechs.
I'll need a good idea for the upper torso before I start. Maybe a cool
cockpit design, an interesting piece of equipment, or a Huge Honkin' Gun.
From this, I devise a mounting point, and everything else falls into place.
There are many technical challenges to building small, but with the right
piece, you can fix anything! EG--an X-wing engine plus some technic bits
became a quad-autocannon. My biggest problem is the cockpit--I get cool
designs that can't even hold a minifig! I tend to stay with tried and true
designs in areas like this. Same for legs--not much to work with, so I have
the same basic form.

| When setting out to "Make a Mech".....What 5 things do you need when building? What is it your looking for when you set your pieces out and begin building? What parts help you or what do you think would help you in building Mecha? Thanks, Eric (...) (22 years ago, 13-Mar-03, to lugnet.build.mecha)
