I'm guessing that Jacob is fairly new to the mecha newsgroup, and most
newbies don't read back through the old posts. Brian hasn't posted in
about 6 weeks, so it's possible that Jacob just hasn't seen his stuff yet.

I wasn't gonna reply to this thread but oh well.

Neither was I.  Heck, I don't build mecha and I don't go ga-ga over em
either (except in the areas of good engineering with the brick)  Oh well. :-)

I agree with Mark and Jeff.  He is probably new and didn't mean any harm or
to cause a situation.  I bet we've probably scared him off from ever posting
again which is unfortunate.

Yep, I agree as well.

I don't think the list was appropriate, but then again the newbie shouldn't
get rocked for it.  He has been corrected and as Dave mentioned this list
would be better off on a personal site.

His list was totally appropriate.  Note he prefaced it with 'IMO' or In My
Opinion.  There's nothing wrong with him posting his opinion of the best
mechs.  He didn't post them as some sort of objective truth, or pretending
to represent everyone's views.  He posted them as his thoughts, and that's
totally fine.

Unfortunately he probably didn't expect the earful he got from some people
when he asked for others' thoughts on his list.

I say its definitely appropriate discussion for LUGNET too.  Though its
equally appropriate for his own website, there's no reason why it
can't/shouldn't be discussed here either.

I for one don't think he should be chastized for posting his own opinion.
Much less, when that opinion praises others' work(s).

I completely agree, he phrased everything as it was coming from his point of view, and he was merely trying to start discussion about what other people thought was the best out there. Sadly some people took it as an insult and it escalated from (...) (22 years ago, 13-Jan-02, to lugnet.build.mecha)
