  Re: Jeremy Sproat

(...) If the former, maybe. If the latter, maybe. ;-) This was really just a sketch, me exploring how to use the Throwbots ball-and-socket joint parts. I hope to return to this model (it's one of my all-time favorites mecha) with this general (...) (24 years ago, 21-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Jeremy Sproat

did you by chance base it on the Fasa "Warhammer" mech? the resemblance is uncanny... if so it's a very good likeness. if not... YOU LIE!!! (j/k, it's still a very nice mech, and i like how you did the torso and legs and connected them. is there (...) (24 years ago, 21-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Jeremy Sproat

Yes Making a larger Robot based on this design, It would be great, I see what you are saying about exploring the use of the ball and socket design, there's somthing great about a prototype right? (URL) ever saw the Technical blueprints for the War (...) (24 years ago, 21-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Jeremy Sproat

(...) Actually, the "Warhammer" was a design lifted from the Robotech series, which was in turn lifted from several Anime series. The "Raidar X" mecha was one of 13 (IIRC) designs FASA was forced to 'give back' to the company that produced Robotech. (...) (24 years ago, 21-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Jeremy Sproat

(...) FASA acquires and recycles designs from anime. This is the Macross original J.S. was emulating: (URL) think FASA also has a clone of this other mech, which is pretty lame since it was designed to accomodate a 50 foot giant Zentradi: (URL) (24 years ago, 21-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Jeremy Sproat

well, thank you all for correcting me... battletech is about the only place from whence i know a great deal of mechs... it is pretty obvious how they stole some of their designs, although i'm afraid i haven't seen many anime with mecha that look (...)   Re: Jeremy Sproat

(...) (1) That series has a generally "curving" style which IMO looks great, almost an eastern European military design, though would be a challenge to capture in blocky Lego... I really like your solution, tho. Now if only I could gather the pieces (...) (24 years ago, 21-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

"You have the most amazing grasp of greeblies, Eric." Jeremy what is a greeblie? "A question about building in that scale: How do you design the joints? Do you lock them into those angles, or are they loose yet strong enough to bear the weight of (...) (24 years ago, 21-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)

  Re: Jeremy Sproat

(...) Jot that down as another d'oh from me (and it's not even noon yet). I meant "greebles". :-, Greebles are all the tiny little pieces of stuff that model makers put on spaceships, etc. to give the illusion of detail from a distance. An example (...)   Re: Jeremy Sproat

Thanks but what is "greeblies" ahh I don't understand? About the Joint connections, I use worm gears, turntables and Technic girders to achive the conections, if I make a small prototype I use black friction pegs. I hope you one day build a large (...)   Re: Jeremy Sproat

Oh ok, ya , this is important, adding detail or grabbing your eye is somthing I study, each part of the design should allow the eye to transition from one area to the next still maintaining the overall impression, detail of course should add not (...)   Re: Jeremy Sproat

  Re: Jeremy Sproat

(...) A large number of FASA's original Battlemechs were "borrowed" from Macross/Robotech. The ones that come to mind are: Macross --> Battletech Excaliber --> Warhammer Raidar X --> Rifleman Veritech fighter --> Wasp (and the Phoenix Hawk as I (...)   Re: Jeremy Sproat

(...) Well like one of the other posters said, FASA had to remove a number of mechs from their products after getting caught using them. Those mentioned will never be pictured again at the least, I believe that they can be used/refered to in novels (...) (24 years ago, 21-Mar-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)
