You’re thinking too hard and not looking at all of the evidence. It’s the only part in the entire list that’s upside-down, so there must be something significant to the bottom. You can also see the stud on the top peeking out, which is way undersized for something that’s designed to fit down over a 1x1 tile and lock on with those notches. Most importantly, why would someone want a dome top that can only clips over a 1x1 tile, plate, or brick? That’s the sort of use-restricted part that everyone would complain about if TLC produced it, especially since the closest we have to a true 1x1 dome is the control stick base.

(...) I'd say, given that you posted such a detailed analysis of all the parts, with a running point by point commentary, that you're the one thinking too hard, but that's just me. I think a better approach than analysing in depth is to just ask the (...) (20 years ago, 7-Jul-04, to lugnet.build, FTX)
