  Re: building problems

(...) Welcome to the obsessio....er, hobby. Lego building as an adult can be very rewarding. (...) I enjoy building the sets too. I think you can learn a lot by building the sets. Something I'm just starting to try is building the sets just by (...) (26 years ago, 8-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

I fully understand what John is saying!!!! I can easily visualize a complex architectural wonder on a piece of paper, but have a very hard time getting perspective down in a sketched scene. I used to be an Mechanical Engineer, and always had (...) (26 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: Large Technic crane

(...) Thanks! As a matter of fact, I'm looking into making an updated version of the white classical racer right now. The new version will be a little bit bigger and have an inline 6 piston engine rather than 4. Otherwise it will basically have the (...) (26 years ago, 7-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: building problems

Good tips. I can't emphasise enough the power of doing design studies. Bits and pieces that you can work from after you're happy. In fact, building, then copying and improving with the other one in front of you, if you have enough pieces, is a GREAT (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: building problems

Hi Anne, I have a few suggestions for you. 1. Start small. Leave the 2 foot long masterpiece till later and build smaller simpler things for now. They can be small versions of the whatever-it-is you want to build 2 feet long <g>. 2. Know what you're (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: building problems

Hi Anne, and welcome to the hobby! Others have posted some good ideas. Here's my two cents. Remember that old joke: "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" "Practice, Practice, Practice" Well, it applies here. To be a better builder, you need to build. I (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: building problems

Tom's tips are great. I suggest starting slowly. Like drawing still life, start with simple, manageable projects. Build one room houses, simple trucks and planes. Things no bigger than 2 handfulls. My father taught me to build with wood by making me (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: New creations on my website

(...) There is something oddly compelling about a black pyramid - it just sits there and demands to be stared at. That brown tower is bizarre - not the design so much as just seeing it all in brown. That much brown seems to be unnatural somehow. :-) (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: building problems

(...) Interesting. We are exposed to 2 dimensional imagery every day that most people interpret as realistic: Television, color photography, movies, and even the images that are formed on the retina of our own eyes are two dimensional. Even if the (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

  Re: building problems

For me 2d is an abstract concept, much the same as black and white photography. 3d is real, equating in some manner to color photography. Does that make sense? <shrug> Hope it was helpful somehow... John Matthews Anne Sullivan wrote in message ... (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

Hi all, I'm new to lego world, I never had them as a child but have gotten heavily into them lately. I really enjoy building my sets but now I'm looking to build my own things. Upon doing so I found out that I have a deficiency. I seem to have a lot (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)
