Good tips. I can't emphasise enough the power of doing design studies.
Bits and pieces that you can work from after you're happy. In fact,
building, then copying and improving with the other one in front of you,
if you have enough pieces, is a GREAT way to get better. If you take the
old one apart, you forget what you were trying to correct.

Good tip, but not as sturdy as putting some bracing in if you can. For
large span roofs, when you get to within 8 studs of each other, put some
2xn plates underneath the course, staggered, (which stiffens the course)
then a few 1x8 beams spanning from one plate to the other. Do that and
you don't need to reach in (and deal with the few bricks that get stuck
on the baseplate when you peel it off)
Regarding references, go to used or discount bookstores and look for
coffee table books like "the world's railroads" or whatever theme you
like. Go for lots of different pics of things in one book. If you get
hooked on a particular thing, surf the web to find more pics of it (for
instance, get a "aircraft of WW II" if that's what your into, and when
you get hooked on the B24 or Mustang, go surfing. It's out there...
Don't spend a LOT on these books, you can get good enough for under 10
each if you shop hard.

| Hi Anne, I have a few suggestions for you. 1. Start small. Leave the 2 foot long masterpiece till later and build smaller simpler things for now. They can be small versions of the whatever-it-is you want to build 2 feet long <g>. 2. Know what you're (...) (26 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)
