Thanks for encouragement folks, I wish there were more hours in the day for
work, family, friends AND Lego.
Tom, I haven't done too much on the history of LEGO since the Classic Windows and
Doors (except for a brief forray into Fence pieces a few weeks ago). But I will
get back to doing some soon. And I will post in both LUGNET and RTL. Some
topics I would like to include are: the early LEGO Garage kits: early LEGO
Service Stations - ESSO & early SHELL; the first LEGO Model Builder sets
(1961-65); the differences between early TLG and Samsonite; the rarest LEGO
parts, and LEGO Parts Packs 1958-68. Hopefully there will be something there for
everyone.
As for my Cathedral, well I've undergone some revisions on it. My fascade has
gone thru 3 changes. I am most pleased with the current look (a cross between
Notre Dame and Westminster Abbey). A few weeks ago I saw a post about creating
Gothic Tracery (rotating the pieces 45 degrees and using plates (including the
ever elusive clear plates). Well I have to say that my "Great East Window"
(using British terminology) looks absolutely awesome with this "tracery" design.
Now I am going to do the west window, as well as the 2 transept windows. I
wanted to do a Rose Window with tracery, but I just can't get it to look as good
as a clerestory or lancet window. Anyway I need to spend a weekend and finish
the Cathedral, then use my new zoom lens camera (all my old pictures used just a
regular camera, hence the lack of clear detail) to take a bunch of photo's and
get them posted.
Then after I finish the cathedral, I probably am going to change it to a
"Cathedral Close" or an Abbey. This would involve adding cloisters, a chapter
house, bishops/abbots palace, smaller chapels, lay buildings, etc.
Besides the Cathedral, I want to finish my 2 Movie Palaces.
So much to do, so little time,
Gary Istok
