I really don't think it's worth the time to work around it -- only to weed out
non-compliant mailers in a consistent and reliable way. If someone is using
a broken newsreader or mailer that doesn't put in the right headers, tough
cookies for them; they shouldn't be posting in the first place. Same goes for
that Eudora bug that does put in the 'References:' header but lobs off the
very last entry, making the replies go in the wrong spot. It's just Wrong.
I haven't blocked out the Eudora thing yet (haven't seen it happen lately) but
just installed a rejection test last night for the 'Internet Mail Service
(5.5.xxxx.x)' problem, and it seems to be working.
