Re: superAUCTION 5: MIB Trades Welcome!! —Todd Lehman
(...) Uhm, YES, it is off-topic for this group, and you are out on a limb. Please re-read the Terms of Use for this site, which you agreed to when you signed up, and which state that auction announcements and updates are only appropriate in groups (...)         Re: superAUCTION 5: MIB Trades Welcome!! —Christopher L. Weeks
(...) Would it be appropriate to post just the initial announcement if trades are to be accepted as auction bid currency? If not, how does one let people who are only interested in trades - and who thus don't read .auction - know about this kind (...) (25 years ago, 22-Jun-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Clear line between Auctions and Trades —Todd Lehman
(...) If, as a bidder/buyer, you can trade for something and end up not having to place bids in the auction, then it may be appropriate for the auctioneer to tactfully post a note (*once*) in the .buy-sell-trade group pointing people over to the (...)       Todd Lehman wrote in message ... (...) I've seen a few crossover situations which might be candidates. I've seen auctions which indicate that items may be withdrawn for trade. The implication is that if you offer a trade the auctioneer likes, he'll (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jun-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.market.auction, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

Re: Clear line between Auctions and Trades —Todd Lehman
(...) Well, but how many auctioneers -won't- ever withdraw some item for a trade if need be? Disclaimers about reserving the right to withdraw something for a trade are pretty common. (...)          Re: Clear line between Auctions and Trades —Christopher L. Weeks
(...) I've run auctions and unless I state that I reserve that right for myself, I feel committed to sell said item at or above the minimum bid that I set from the beginning. Is this not how everyone feels? I would be insulted and NEVER buy (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jun-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.market.auction, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

Interesting, I hadn't thought about your original reasons for seperating the two. I would have guessed that the only real reason was to keep updates out of the trade group, which is only a part of your reason. (...) If I'm a person with a (...)         Re: Clear line between Auctions and Trades —Doug Finney
(...) The best solution IMO is to first post a "Want to Trade" message to buy-sell-trade. Start an auction (appropriately announced only in the auction group) only after giving the trade message a week or two to generate responses. Heck, you can say (...)         Re: Clear line between Auctions and Trades —Todd Lehman
(...) Right. The other part is to keep auction announcements out of the trade group. Announcements are just as much "noise" as updates are (to people who hate auctions). And it's also human nature (when it comes to selling) to bend the rules as much (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jun-99, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.market.auction, lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade)

(...) Wow, I didn't even notice. Thanks for going through all that trouble. But it's never been against the rules to include anything like that in a sig. What's against the rules is posting auction announcements and/or updates in non-auction groups. (...)
