I completely and thoroughly reject the notion that I was being mean.

I agree, we should make an effort to foster a generally positive environment
here. I also value intelligent posts with reasonable effort given to composition
and grammar. I can overlook people with English as a second language, but native
English speakers old enough to navigate this site and figure out how to post
have little excuse.
To me, LUGNET is far beyond some EZBoard which encourages nonsensical posting. I
like high standards and I encourage them because they foster the type of
community where I can enjoy myself among others who can string a cohesive
thought together. I'm sure I'm not alone in this feeling.
It's sad to me when people either 1) don't reply to a post like Dan's in a
corrective way [1] or 2) post very snide, sarcastic comments. My post filled the
gap where others are too afraid to go. It wasn't mean, it was simply a clear,
direct post intended as a wake up call -- where other styles of posts wouldn't
have registered.

[1] Either they don't say anything, or they reply ignoring the problem all
together.
