(...) Which page is that? Do you mean the traffic page? (URL) and we could just come up like normal. Come up like normal? (...) You lost me here. :) What bookmarked link? (...) Oh, don't worry about space on the server. Could easily allocate 100 MB (...) (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) think (...) Also, you could just mirror the current page that us seasoned veterans use to see what's going on, and we could just come up like normal. Well, we'll have to change our bookmarked link, but that would be it. How much space would (...) (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Lugnet for beginners

(...) I agree. I know I was overwhelmed by RTL back in 1996...and AFAIK, LUGNET today is much bigger than RTL was in 96. Although it might make life a little more difficult for seasoned users, I think a simpler entry page might be beneficial to new (...) (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Thread oopies (was: Re: Lugnet for beginners)

(...) d'Oh--Oops! Thanks for pointing this out! "Bad programmer, bad programmer!" A couple weeks ago I wrote a special newsreader that shows me live[1] streaming news. If I wanted to reply to a message, I'd hit 'w' and it would fork off a copy of (...) (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: "Yisra`el" vs. "Israel"

(...) Heh heh, I was going to jump in and say thanks as well, and also check if anything new happened. I went to the local groups and searched, out of habit, in the Y section... ;) Just for a second tho'... -Shiri (25 years ago, 2-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.loc.il)

  Re: Lugnet for beginners

(...) Glad ta hear that. (Frank, glad I can count you in, BTW). But, Todd, why are all your posts creating new threads? This is off-topic yet it makes it hard to follow the thread... a bug maybe? -Shiri (25 years ago, 1-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Factoring going off line for a while

(...) Well -- hey -- better yet, what if the server said, "Hey, Hi! You seem to be using a machine that you haven't used before. Store a cookie with your info?" (With, of course, a "don't ask again" checkbox if you say 'no'...) --Todd (25 years ago, 1-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

In lugnet.admin.general, Shiri Dori writes: [snipped part of list] (...) Count me in :-) If words come up that help newbies I'll be happy to add them to the Lexicon. Also if there are documents to be written I would be glad to help. -Frank (25 years ago, 1-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Where is everybody?!

(...) Well, if you think something is off-topic you can direct it somewhere else. You can do this by cross-posting to the group you want (simply add the group's name to the 'newsgroups' area if you're using web interface) and then write the group's (...)   Re: "Yisra`el" vs. "Israel"

(...) OK, I think I get it now, thanks! :-) If the canonical way to write the name in the ISO-8859-1 character set is Israel and not Yisra`el, then Israel it is! :-) OK, the (URL) page now lists this in the I's instead of the Y's. --Todd (25 years ago, 1-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.loc.il)

  Re: Lugnet for beginners

OK, I can't write long again (sorry) but I have some basic thoughts for this 'guide'. (All my opinions, I'm using should but it's not meant to force anything.) -The guide should be written in a friendly, one-on-one sorta tone. Not that the formal (...)   Re: "Yisra`el" vs. "Israel"

(...) errr... yes, sorry :) (...) well, you would never find it spelled like that in Israel, and rarly it would even be pronounced like that.   Re: web posting

(...) ok, that does make it a bit more complex - but still, you could just have a pulldown menu so you could choose the "personality" you're posting under. Or just add another option to the user configuration page. :) Dan (25 years ago, 1-Mar-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: "Yisra`el" vs. "Israel"

(...) Yeah, that's what he meant :P (...) It's not that it's incorrect. That _is_ how Israelis say the name of the country - in Hebrew. However, we never write it like that in English. The common and acceptable English spelling is Israel. This is (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.admin.general, lugnet.loc.il)

  Re: web posting

(...) Some people have news-by-mail settings for multiple e-mail addresses, and they want to maintain those from a single machine (or multiple machines). So that's why it asks you to reconfirm the address at the entry page (URL) each time -- because (...) (25 years ago, 29-Feb-00, to lugnet.admin.general)

  "Yisra`el" vs. "Israel"

Dan, I'm assuming below that you meant lugnet.loc.il, because there is no group lugnet.local.yisrael... (...) On the entry page (URL) for lugnet.loc.il, it shows lugnet.loc.il- Yisra`el (Israel) My world atlas showed "Yisra`el" as the correct (...)
