Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) I feel much better now... Lets see. I would say that ideally, each of the following criteria could be treated as part of an equation (<>= (value), !(value), etc) - in other words, have them treatable as logical expressions. Set number set name (...) (26 years ago, 10-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

(...) says (...) down, (...) Something like that, yes. I seem to be attacking this from an interface point of view, so I'll keep with that, for now. Scroll down for an example of some of my thoughts (...) enter (...) Yes! I knew I'd seen something (...) (26 years ago, 10-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Fuzzy categories: The death of black & white

(...) Ah, but sometimes they do (anything in 6800-6999 :-). But I admit, it's possible that TLG may someday destroy the sacred 6800-6999 range as they destroyed the 6700-6799 range. 67xx used to be solely for Space minifigs and Space Light & Sound (...)   Re: Fuzzy categories: The death of black & white

Also sprach Todd Lehman: : To be more precise, Star Wars sets are certainly "space" sets (lowercase "s"), : but clearly not "Space" sets (uppercase "S" as in "LEGO[LAND] Space System") : because of their non-6[89]xx numbering. Ah, but as various (...) (26 years ago, 10-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Fuzzy categories: The death of black & white

(...) That's an interesting thought. :) The question, of course, was a trick question -- where the [de]capitalization of "space" is intended to illustrate the inherent controversy/confusion. To be more precise, Star Wars sets are certainly "space" (...) (26 years ago, 10-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Fuzzy categories: The death of black & white

Also sprach Matthew Miller: : I'd say no. They definitely come from a different universe than that of : Lego's space stuff. Since Star Wars is supposedly the distant past, maybe the Star Wars sets are a past-space instead of future-space theme? :) / (...) (26 years ago, 9-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) I -almost- made sub-categories of the so-called "classic" Space in the Fibblesnork LEGO Guide but was talked out of it (I think by Steve Bliss) by being shown many examples of boundary-straddling sets. But the FLG has hard-line boundaries, so (...) (26 years ago, 9-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

Also sprach Todd Lehman: : There might be 4 or 5 (or more) sub-categories of classic Space -- for : example, a little specialized category for the 3 ships in the Galaxy : Explorer family, and categories for the whole original blue/yellow/gray : (...) (...) You mean indexing on content like the set name, human-entered comments, and all that, yes? With the option to disable matches on certain fields? (...)   Re: Sets which "break the rules"

On Fri, 8 Jan 1999 03:41:54 GMT, Todd Lehman uttered the following profundities... (...) Yes, though the number was different, but still 5 digits. It was the UK version, too. Still haven't found the invoice, though I am 90% certain I still have it. (26 years ago, 8-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) Actually, it depends a great deal on what the engine is searching - I'll come up with a list when my brain is less broken. (: (...) competitive (...) Absolutely.   Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) Yes! We have examples of sets with promotional numbers being sold in retail outlets and sets with non-promotional numbers being sold as promotional items. 2149 would have a 'promtionalhood' of 100%, as its only available from Color Line 2148 (...)   Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) Actually, there are only three factions, according to TLG. They are the Blue Clan Samurai, the Red Robbers, and the Red Ninjas. The Blue Clan is teamed with the Dark Gray Ninjas, the Red Robbers are teamed with the Black Ninjas, and the Red (...) (26 years ago, 8-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) Here's an example of what I mean by wanting things to "just work" -- and wanting the categories to be relatively transparent by default. If you type in "bike" into this element-search thingie, (URL) fails to find any pieces labeled as "bike." (...) (26 years ago, 8-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

Re: Official and Unofficial theme categories

(...) Here's another example of where purely word-based attributes can lead things astray -- I just noticed this: (URL) says that "egypt" contains "pyramid", which makes sense. OK so far. But -- if you click on "pyramid", (URL) comes up with this (...) (26 years ago, 8-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)

  Element search with fuzzy categories

OK, here's the fuzzy element search thingie I was mentioning earlier tonight. It's ugly, it doesn't contain all possible information, and it's just a proof-of-concept toy -- but it's kinda actually helpful, and its results are sometimes surprising (...)   Re: Sets which "break the rules"

Todd Lehman wrote in message <36957e56.27889166@l...et.com>... (...) There are also some other sets from the very beginning of TLG. They were named like "700/0", "700/1", and so on. They are all (7 ot 8 in total) are small sets feturing Legoland (...) (26 years ago, 8-Jan-99, to lugnet.admin.database)
