Interesting bit of news/mail gateway trivia..

I just discovered something else that stems from the setting of the From: field to the posters name, rather than lugnet.com, for the news/mail gateway to the robotics list: I posted something in lugnet.robotics, and the postmaster for some (...) (26 years ago, 21-Feb-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) What web browser are you submitting this from? I'll hafta mess around and try to recreate the problem. I think BramL was having the same problem a few weeks ago...but I think that was a Juno e-mail problem. In the meantime, try e-mailing the (...) (26 years ago, 3-Feb-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Because there aren't 80-100 subscribers. :) The symbols are histogram *percentages*. @ means 80%-100%, so it would mean either 4 or 5 people out of 5 in this case. --Todd (26 years ago, 23-Feb-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Bummer, I was afraid this might happen someday. Not only did the mailserver dishonor the Errors-To header, it looks like it also deleted it when it bounced a copy of the message it back to you! :=( On all outgoing news-by-mail messages, the (...) (...) You e-mailed the .DAT file to lugnet.cad.dat@lugnet.com then? Veddy veddy odd...it hasn't shown up in the ng, and it doesn't appear in the dead- articles file (the rejects file) on the server. It's as if it never made it to the server. Do you (...) (26 years ago, 4-Feb-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

Still, I don't believe that the ends don't justify the means; and getting permission first probably only slows things by a very small percentage overall. (...) Then again, (...) I've got the problem narrowed down to a file size limitation of approximately 16.5 KB in an NNTP connection library. I know that it's not a bug somewhere in the (...)
