Trebuchet (was: Sneak preview Estuary Stronghold)

(...) I just watched the Siege Weapons edition of the Nova "Secrets of Lost Empires" miniseries on PBS. Basically, the hour-long show focused on the efforts of two groups of people to build two slightly different trebuchets using medieval methods, (...) (25 years ago, 2-Feb-00, to lugnet.castle)

(...) <snip> Wow, looks like fun! A few comments to improve it, if you're interested: You'll want to start with the arm as close to inverted as possible; this gives a longer stretch of acceleration. The figure of "by a half" I got from the wooden model they used in the Nova special, which fired 30 feet when rolling, versus 20 feet when stationary. Another (...) (...) Hm. The trebuchets in the Nova special did not have crossbars, but in any event I might be trying to do something a little too tricky for now. The catapult bucket is a really good idea, and I did try to use the bucket-and-arm from the Catapult (...) (25 years ago, 2-Feb-00, to lugnet.castle)

Trebuchet game (was: Re: rtlToronto13: rtlToronto/castle1)

A few years back, I worked out a game for Lego catapults. I used non-lego (#32R) rubber bands to power them. You had a castle (with the catpult on top) and little destructable village buildings made by placing small roof caps on top of (...) (22 years ago, 25-Jul-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
