  Re: Infrared Detector

(...) The most common metal can IR detectors are made by Sharp. The older ones I have are marked GP1U5X2 (with pins coming out the back of the can), but the newer ones I have are part number GP1U58Y (and have pins coming out of the bottom of the (...)   OT: some fun

One night when his charge was pretty high, Micro-Farad decided to seek out a cute little coil to let him discharge. He picked up Milli-Amp and took her for a ride on his Megacycle. They rode across the Wheatstone bridge, around the sine waves, and (...) (23 years ago, 26-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  infrared / radio repeater

We now have an infrared / radio repeater system. It can do PC <--> RCX or RCX <--> RCX. (No networking yet!) The system translates the IR data to RF data and vice versa. Data may pass distances from 20m to 500m, depending on the selected RF-power. (...) (20 years ago, 5-Nov-04, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: RCX3 - Can extra hardware functionality be added?

(...) I have a proposal that would theoretically allow an RCX to use 49 motors and 147 active sensors (or 588 switches!). This has the potential to control an entire Ball Contraption or railway! The idea may be expandable to four times those (...) (20 years ago, 27-Jan-05, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  In support of Larry

I'm ashamed of all the Larry-bashing that's been taking place. If you've only interacted with the man online (which I believe is the case with some of his harshest critics), you have no perspective on who he really is. Hence, you're really not (...)   RE: Ultrasound Range-Finding

(...) The IR sensors on the robot I built have an effective range of about 4 feet. The "downside" of IR sensors are that they are much more difficult to scale in terms of distance. I used a PIC chip to do both illumination and error elimination and (...) (28 years ago, 15-Apr-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Ultrasonic sensors - comparison & performance?

I've been looking at ultrasonic sensors for the RCX - two seem currently availible, the 24 kHz one from Mindsensors, and the 40 kHz one from HiTechnic.
