Loved your article, reminds me of the great stuff the Boulette Robotics club does. I was curious why you used differential steering instead of an adder/subtractor or synchro drive, were there some rule limitations on parts you could use? "G.W. (...) You know my English is not the best and I had to ask my dictionary which told me that "stud" means first any kind of studs (like we know them from Lego, clothing etc.), but it has the second meaning of a (...) Yes it does, but since the torque runs via the vertical shaft, the wheel sets are trying to spin and due to this fact, the engine runs on straigt track at least as bad as most engines do in curves, probably worse. (...) Hi Dave, a blue motor housing with black base, that means a very old motor like from sets 100, 102, 112, 113 from 1966 - 1968. So it's definitely a 4.5 Volt motor. Having just recently searched through all 20,000+ posts in the lugnet.cad archive, it was more than a little frustrating to find that these parts (2997 and 2998) that have been asked for repeatedly always result in people being referred back to (...) (23 years ago, 28-Aug-01, to lugnet.cad)

hi, I am using handy board to control my robot. In order to implement dead reckoning, I brought a pair of shaft encoders which give 1000 counts per revolution.
