By trial, error, and lots of googling, I found a recipe for getting to the programming feature in the RIS software that came with my old original set. Picked up a used Droid Developer Kit (set #9748) via garage sale. Had the instruction manuel, the micro-scout and missing less than a handful of parts (easily replaced).   Cleaning white bricks!
 
To all who have had discolored white bricks - a cleaning method! I have discovered that using a tiny amount of Comet with water on 600 grit wet sand sandpaper will clean that icky yellow smoker's stain off of white bricks! I haven't tried it on any (...) Interesting. So...how to deal with the new plates... Actually, I have been noticing in "real-life" how roads with pavement over a year or two old tends to be sunbleached to a light gray similar to the old style Lego plates. Only the newest of (...) Went yesterday - Tuesday 27th - busy but not packed - weather good. Lots of new stuff in miniland, including a Le Mans racing track which wasn't working. I have a 100 MHz computer, connected to the Net via a 56K modem dialup, with an old scanner that I got second-(or third-)hand for about $25. It works fine.
