  Bob The Builder Duplo

Hi all, Haven't seen this mentioned on lugnet but the press release is around a month old. Lego has licensed Bob the Builder and plans to release a 5 set Duplo range next year, due for release around September. (URL) Company “Cements” Deal With (...) (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.duplo)

Re: Concerns with Racial Attitudes and Lego

(...) Semantically, there's no necessary connection. But around 1800 or so, with the rise of scientific racism, the two became linked. It started out as a way for otherwise decent human beings to "justify" the moral rectitude of slavery (and later, (...) (24 years ago, 18-Sep-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: Concerns with Racial Attitudes and Lego

In lugnet.off-topic.debate, John DiRienzo writes: First off, I just want to say I apologize to John, I think I misunderstood a lot from here, and we had our own disagreements elsewhere.   Re: Parts license

(...) I'd definitely be somewhat concerned about a license which restricted the parts from being used with non-free programs. I'd hate to preclude the possibility of a really awesome commercial program being forced to re-invent the wheel, and (...) (24 years ago, 18-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

One way for Lego to improve its set designs

We all have a reasonable idea of Lego's set design process: 1. Choose, create or license a new theme/subtheme 2. Produce a range of concept models 3. Decide on new pieces to mould (eg Insectoid legs) 4. Design and manufacture 6-10 sets per release (...) (24 years ago, 31-Oct-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.dear-lego)

  Re: Parts license

(...) Why do you think that way ? If the person was writing a new part then he could use any license he wanted but he's using someone else's work and IMO it's fair to give the original author the same rights that he gave you. A person could for (...) (24 years ago, 22-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Parts license

(...) This is a good point, and I agree with it. I don't know if it has anything to do with copyright or not. (...) As I understand it (and IANAL), 'copyright' applies to the expression of ideas. So you can hold copyright on a file, which prevents (...) (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: Parts license

Have you covered the case where a parts author submits a new part for review, but because of errors the part is rejected? I think you should still have ldraw.org retain rights to modify and distribute, so that someone else could clean up the file (...) (24 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Re: Resolved: Tall SUVs should not be a priori banned

As to the above, I only want to be very specific about what I am trying to get across: I don't care about banning SUVs or Monster trucks, I care about their approximate (...)   Re: Parts license

I am sorry to jump in so late. I am the debian packager of LeoCAD. My general thoughts on this follow. I think it would be best to use a common, existing license rather than add to the license soup if at all possible. Of course, one doesn't want to (...) (24 years ago, 23-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Though I can't (nor do I want to) refute your definition of spam, I feel that in this situation -- Lugnet being the 'friendliest place on the web' -- a little patience is in order. Is spam bad? Yes.
