NXT firmware to be open source

From (URL) press release>: "The LEGO Group today announced that for the first time it will release as open source the firmware of the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® microprocessor – the new NXT brick – the core component of its next generation robotics toolset.   Re: NXT firmware to be open source

(...) The LEGO Mindstorms Driver SDK is dual platform (PC and Mac). It is built upon the National Instruments NI-VISA interface. The main driver component is called Fantom. It exposes a set of C functions and C++ classes which let you communicate (...) (18 years ago, 3-May-06, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) The memory used by a program while it is running is not the same memory used for storing the program (flash). There isn't any way that I know of at this point to find out how much memory a program uses while it is running or how much of (...) (18 years ago, 6-May-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Mindstorms.NET Request for Comments

I've been working with José David Parra on the next version of his (URL) RCX.NET> project, because 1.) the NXT system is coming out, and 2.) RCX.NET is basically a .NET wrapper of Spirit.ocx, which means it's not so nice to program with. Another (...)   How to get RCX software and the IR tower to work on modern systems

And yes, it uses virtual devices. A friend sent me a link to this page- <https://www.bartnec...EU-FA9e10> The page gives a walkthru to set up a virtual device, install XP in that virtual device and then spool up the RCX software and the IR tower I (...)   Programming the RCX

My son and I are new to the group (and to Mindstorms) so I don't know if this has been covered recently... I'd be very interested in learning the pros and cons of different programming options for the RCX. I'm currently using NQC but don't have a (...) (18 years ago, 10-Apr-06, to lugnet.org.us.smart)

LEGO just announced Robolab 2.9: (URL) last version of ROBOLAB is designed to support RCX users and east the transition to the NXT system. This upgrade enables you to program the NXT brick with ROBOLAB. In addition, ROBOLAB 2.9 features new firmware (...) (19 years ago, 2-Apr-06, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.robolab)

Help me improve the Wikipedia article about Mindstorms?

The Wikipedia article about Lego Mindstorms ((URL) is really paltry on the details. There's nothing in there about Spybotics, or Cybermaster, or Micro Scout, or the improvements in the RCX firmware releases, or how the RCX can control the Scout, or (...)   Re: What's the latest RCX firmware?

Thanks to Michael Barrett Andersen for helping me find the answer: the latest firmware is version 0328, and is available as part of the Mindstorms 2.5 SDK, which is downloadable freely from Lego. (19 years ago, 12-Mar-06, to lugnet.robotics)

I'd be surprised if LEGO doesn't do *something* with the built-in encoders - after all, *they* put them there. the question is how much. The (...) (19 years ago, 22-Feb-06, to lugnet.robotics)
