A challenge for seasoned Lego Trainers...

Okay. Here's the situation. Like many people who got into 12 volt Lego trains, I own a number of magnetic couplers which have little pins that stick down toward the track. It took me years to realize these were designed to interact with the (near (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Box Logs

(...) I agree. I think the log should stay with the box, not be posted online. It takes the fun out and ruins the mystery. I'm going to stop reading posts about what was taken because I want to be completely surprised. Besides, I don't want to cry (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.market.jambalaya)

Re: why is no-one saying anything about my parts?

Usually I only stop by this group every once in awhile, but I've noticed this was building. (...) You were designing ldraw parts without actual pieces present for reference? I wouldn't put any confidence in a system like that. I sure am glad others (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)

  Re: New SW contest proposal

(...) Perhaps it would be better to just send Lego of equal value to overseas winners anyway as Lego seems to be cheaper in the US than anywhere else in the world (at least according to the Star Wars prices that were up a few months ago) Just a (...) An HP48 calculator. The PPC ROM and synthetic programming (...) (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: RIS version 1.5 coming this fall

(...) Sorry, I was (accidentally) spreading FUD. Didn't occur to me that taking the batteries out would reset it. I assumed that "firmware" really meant firmware. --Todd (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: RIS version 1.5 coming this fall

(...) Seriously? OK, whew! Then I *was* just being paranoid. I'll cross my fingers then and hope that 1.5 also has this property. (...) Amazing. Excellent. All is well with 1.0 then! (Whew!) --Todd (25 years ago, 30-Jul-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Why 5 to 6?

It's only a guess but perhaps they picked that sort of ratio to make sure that it would be easier for small kids to play with them - having a 1-1 ratio might be more confusing for kiddies who are just about getting old enough to work out which way (...) Okay, I'll bite -- how do you get 7/6 to be anywhere close to SQRT(3)? 7/6 is 1.167, and SQRT(3) is 1.732. Is there an additional 2:3 ratio hidden inside the "8880 transmission"? Also, I'm having a little trouble figuring out how the transmission (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jul-99, to lugnet.build)
