Get it.

Build it.

Love it.

Hidden weapons, bunchanew parts, swivling cockpit, peekabo engine, midnight
blue, light forest green (made to go with lite grey), and faring pieces to
spare.

A little pricey (TRU $69 CAD), but the most fun I've had building a stock
set since the snowspeeder.

Apologies if this is old hat....

Cheers,
-G

I'll have to agree, Gil.  7153 is a great improvement on the previous
version.  I was among those who were originally a bit puzzled by two Slave 1
sets, but I'm glad TLC gave it a facelift.  I filled in the open gaps under
the cockpit, and made the wing struts a bit more substantial:

Great work, Matt. The customizing looks natural in its placement (not to
mention its functionality). Think I'll take some notes for when I build my
Ep. II Slave I (lots of roman numerals, there).

I just got ep II Slave I and I'm looking for ideas to modify it.  This link
looked promising, but it's dead now.  Can you pictures of you mod back up or
fix the link?  I'd really like to see what you did for improvements.

Hey Tom.  Sorry it took so long to reply, haven't been around for a bit.
After deleting the Slave I pics from my Brickshelf account I didn't even
consider anybody referencing that link...oh well, it's long gone now.  Um,
I'll take more pictures if you want, but I'm telling you right now, my mods
were nothing much at all.  1) I added some 1X4 and 1X6 black bricks to
"seal" the lower fuselage...barely visible in the photo.  2) I added one
additonal strut to each stabilizer using technic axles and connecters,
again, nothing mind-blowing.  By the time the new pics become public, I'm
sure you'll have something figured out.

The Slave I pix are halfway down the list.  Enjoy.  :-)

Matt,

Good idea with the struts...much improved.  I figure with a few other slight
modifications, it will be a more 'space worthy' design.  I figure I'll wait
until I see it in action to tinker with it....

Cheers,
-G

I love the new colors and pieces.  I think the new dark blue will be my
favorite new color.  The new pieces are also especially good, particularly
the faring pieces.  The proportions and shape of the model are also much
better than the first.  It also has lots of moving parts; the storage bay,
gun/missile emplacements, bomb drop, rotating wings.  However, the inclusion
of some of these movable "action" parts has, I think, compromised the
overall integrity of the model.

In part because of the modularity employed to construct the ship, the
structural stability is very low.  The ship falls apart easily when held
from most points.  The cockpit pops off with very little pressure, as do the
farings around the wing assemblies.  I was reminded of some the HP sets that
"explode" when you try to pick them up.  However, the new parts are so cool
that I'm not bothered by this that much.  Although I would have kept the set
together a lot longer if it wasn't so flimsy.

Intregity is Key, you want to keep things similar to
the target design, but usually that intergiry is traded for,
instead, a weak structural design. When I think of this,
I try to look back to the 7130 Snowspeeder, which made equal compromise
of both integrity, and structural values. Here's what I
found.

Lots of specialized parts, particularly those that are large,
and have few studs, jeapordize the model's structure.

Lack of basic bricks and plates, cause the model to actually
lost intergrity (no kidding?) The slave one has a lot of specialized
parts, but I think they could have scaled back on those a bit.

Moving parts (systematic). When you have a lot of model parts
that move about, this in turn causes the model to grow unstable,
and if too many parts are pushed out at once, you have a disaster
of design on hand. Keep it simple.

In part because of the modularity employed to construct the ship, the
structural stability is very low.  The ship falls apart easily when held

Oh well, most of the people that buy these sets, will either
keep them unopened, or break them apart for parts, so even
though the design integrity is poor, most people won't
handle the built model anyway, unless they're SW geeks, or just
want to build the model for the heck of it...

Gents,

Strange that you mention the integrity issue.  I've read a few other posts
describing the same problem and expected it.  However, the completed model
is extremely solid...definately more so than any other SW model I have with
exception of the Snowspeeder.  Perhaps I just lucked in this time....when
compared to the bin full of loose hinges, no friction friction pins and
teflon stick plates, I suppose I've been rewarded with a fluke in my favour!

Cheers,
-G

Sigh. Guess I'm a SW geek. It's all built models for me, although I try not
to handle them unless I'm gently desecrating them in the name of truth,
justice, and the American way.

I'm with you Monica. I don't have the time to be dreaming up MOCs anymore....
I buy them cuz they are SW AND Lego together in one.

Me too. Except in the English way ;)

I have my sets built and shelved. I do have a few extra sets for some MOCs,
such as my TIE Interceptor to sit alongside Vader's TIE and the TIE
Fighter - and with a bit of luck a TIE Bomber MOC now I've picked up a
couple more TIEs :)

One of my snowspeeders gets lots of handling - it's my 2 1/2 year old
daughter's favourite ... although she's been trying to convince me to let
her play with the Republic Gunship (no chance, no after the UCS X-Wing
fiasco!).
