| All -
Now is the time for the call for nominations for the first LSC. If you're not
familiar with the LSC, please read the latest proposal:
http://news.lugnet.com/cad/dev/org/ldraw/?n=2462. [1]
The way I am reading things at this point, we don't need a formal nomination
structure this go-round to get the LSC started. Steve and I chatted about it and
we're fine with either people volunteering (nominating themselves), or being
nominated by someone else (the nominee must accept the nomination to appear on
the ballot).
Remember, to be eligible for LSC membership (according to proposal 0.99a) you
must fulfill at least one of the following:
* Authored at least two LDraw parts subsequently released in an Official
LDraw.org Parts Update
* Served as a reviewer on the Parts Tracker through at least 2 official
parts updates, and posted at least 5 reviews in at least two updates since
their initial participation
* Authored a software program that is compliant with either the LDraw 0.2.7
spec or another spec published by the LSC
(the last two criteria have been cut since they don't apply here - there are no
current LSC members to petition someone's nomination)
----
To volunteer or nominate someone, please reply _in this thread_. I don't want to
have to track down nominations from multiple sources, and it would be better to
see nominations publicly anyways, so I'll only accept them if they appear in
this thread. Please respect the criteria above - and to make life easier for
myself and Steve and the others, it would be great if you could reference your
qualification - mention a program you've written, a couple part numbers, etc.
Not necessary, but helpful :-)
----
Note - nominations must be received (posted) by July 15. Voting begins July 17.
As a side note, the people on the tech list are working on getting the new site
ready for launch. It won't be perfect when it launches, but it will have a lot
more capabilities than the current site (including a membership/voting system)
so that will be a good thing. So, between now and the 17th, the site *should* be
live and working in time for voting. If there are any changes to that schedule
I'll keep you posted.
Well, I hope this is informal enough for all of your liking :-) Though forming
the LSC is a big step for the LDraw community, we don't need to kick it off
bogged in bureaucracy - I'm happier that way cause it's less work for me too!
:-)

[1] I suggest you view the raw message via the web interface (small link above
the reply button) because as Lar noted the FTX formatting got screwy on bullet
points, snipping off some text.

Just in case volunteering isn't sufficient:
I nominate:
- Orion Pobursky
- Kevin Clague
Presumably their having volunteered counts as accepting their nominations. :-)

Tim:
I was wondering what was happening to LSC effort, and here I discover there was
yet
another newsgroup that I should have been subscribed to. I'll spend later
tonight
catching up on what I've missed.
With regards to the LSC nomination, as much as I would like to accept the
nomination, at this time I do not meet LSC requirements. I might add that I
think the LSC membership requirements
are exteremely reasonable. Thus, I request that you withdraw the nomination.
If the LSC that forms wishes to ask my opinions on procedures and processes
based on my previous W3C work, I will be delighted to chime in.
One of these days I will get around to adding an LDraw format reader to my 3D
software. When that happens, I will finally meet the LSC requirements.
If folks are interested, my current 3D work is going on at this URL:
<http://gramlich.net/projects/cnc/chips/index.html>
I have been spending a great deal of time writing a 3D solids library
that support the union, intersection and difference of solid surfaces.
An example of that work can be found at the following URL:
<http://gramlich.net/projects/cnc/chips/AttachPlate.html>
Cheers,
-Wayne

Yeah, the compartmentalized among us were asking I post LSC stuff in
cad.dev.org.ldraw :-)

Consider it withdrawn. My mistake for not thinking ahead :-)
I'd like to add a nomination for Larry Pieniazek - he was also involved in sorta
the preliminary discussion that lead to the LSC Proposal drafts, and has some
good ideas.

I hope they are interested in what you have to say - your advice and insight has
been invaluable to me.

I've given this some considerable thought and while I think it's important to
have a community focused voice on the committee, I have decided to decline this
nomination. There are a number of other very well qualified nominees and I'm
concerned about getting spread too thin. I want to thank Tim and others for
their expressions of support, though.
I do plan to stand for the overall Ldraw.org executive committee once those
elections are launched, though. (and it is my expectation that will be happening
fairly soon, the LSC election should validate a lot of the technical work that
will make elections happen).

Thanks, but no thanks, I don't think I can find the time necessary.
I find it important to have programmers involved,
since they have to parse whatever is being proposed,
so I'm glad Michael Lachmann has accepted nomination.
I'd like also to nominate
Travis Cobbs
who I think have brought up many issues (and solutions) with the LDRAW format.
I look forward to follow the discussions of the LSC,
though I don't understand why only LSC members can participate.
I do understand that they have the final vote.

FYI, midnight GMT is at 8pm Eastern (US) time/7pm Central (US) time. To be
included on the ballot for the first LSC, please accept your nomination by that
time.
Thanks!
