Dear readers,

As some of you may have already known, Todd Lehman and I recently decided to limit our involvement in LUGNET to the end of this Fall. We both will always love LUGNET and feel great pride in what its users have grown it into, but we have fresh endeavors to pursue now. Mine, incidentally, will continue to keep me busy within the AFOL Community where my heart lies.

I’ve worked hard for the past few months on finding the best person, or people, to adopt the project. I feel extremely fortunate and pleased to announce that LUGNET will live on and prosper in the very capable hands of René Hoffmeister.

For those of you who don’t recognize that name, René is a long-time AFOL (and LUGNET member number 293!) who founded 1000steine.de - the successful web-based community for German adult LEGO enthusiasts - back in 1999, around the same time of LUGNET’s birth. He is fluent in English; is a proud Dad; and possesses a natural knack for organizing groups of volunteers.

These days, he devotes full time to planning LEGO-related events, fostering his community’s healthy relationship with The LEGO Group, and maintaining his own servers which host 1000steine and provide others in our greater community with free webspace and bandwidth.

I can not stress enough, the value of his unwavering dedication to furthering the hobby and his selflessly working toward an ideal vision for the adult LEGO-using community. The LUGNET membership and its other users will be in truly in good hands. I’ve always had tremendous respect for René. He has my complete confidence for moving us forward.

Over the next few months, Todd and I will be sorting out details. For now, let’s all give a big cheer for René and proceed to celebrate his new role in our community! This is truly great news, and it marks a new age of positive potential for us.

So, “Yea yeay, René! Welcome, and thank you.”

Sincerely,

Suzanne Rich Green and Todd Lehman co-founders of LUGNET

Suz-

Outstanding! This is really great news - I feel a lot better knowing that LUGNET will continue, and in good hands.

Plus, I understand you did pretty well from this deal:

I just hope Rene doesn’t find raccoons in the servers!

After all, we know that the Germans are not all smiles und sunshine...

Hello there!

Thanky you, Suz, for giving me such a warm welcome!

I’m looking forward to accept the challenge to keep existing values of LUGNET alive, to develop it further with the help of all people who are interested and to consolidate LUGNET’s considerable role in our wonderful AFOL-universe.

An issue which some of you might have in mind: Will LUGNET be “swallowed up” by 1000steine.de? NO, and that’s for certain. You don’t have to be afraid of an invasion by the 1000steine-members or of a retrograde step to the technical level of 1000steine.de :-)

All other things will be worked out during the next weeks; I don’t want to jump the gun. Suz & Todd will have the final say whether any particular issues are handled this way or another or not.

Nevertheless, my mailbox is open to everyone to send suggestions and objections. What do you expect or what are you hoping for? I’m looking forward to read every email.

But first: Have a wonderful BrickFest. Second: Enjoy all the pics and follow-up discussion of BF. And most of all: Leg Godt!

I’m very pleased at this announcement. I personally feel that handing Lugnet off to a single, capable person such as René is the best possible decision that could have been made. I look forward to Lugnet continuing under René’s leadership.

Yay!

I have to admit, that when Suz said on her blog that she was looking for new owners, I was concerned that we might get someone who was great at the programming and administering end, but might not be a part of the AFOL community and therefore in tune with our ways. The announcement of Rene (hmm, how do I do accented letters here anyway?) is outstanding.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing how this develops over the next months. Hopefully this will further increase the ties between different parts of the community.

To Suz and Todd, thank you so much for all you’ve done in fostering this community!

To Rene, welcome aboard!

Hold down ‘Alt’ and press 0233 - you should get an ‘é’. See the FTX Quick Reference Card.

If you use a Mac, you'd type option-e, e.
The big thing Todd always used to say was, "if the web preview show it (whatever
"it" may be), it WILL show up fine for everyine else." I use that rule of thumb.
(I hope it's actually true!)

Heh, maybe on the web interface, we should add the é number to the list at
right.

That's right Erik..... and with these 6 letters (3 German letters + 3
Scandinavian languages letters) we can complete the 6 extra alphabet letters
that were produced by Lego from 1958-71, as seen here in Clark Stephens printed
brick site. Shown are the available letters in continental European parts packs
sets #234 (1958-65), #488 (1966-68) and #988 (1969-72),

I was so tired the morning I wrote this... STILL, I can't believe I made such a
silly mistake in spelling. I didn't even -notice- it until almost 2 days
later!!! That's what a crazy weekend it was.

I guess it came from my fingers typing "LEGO" so often.
...Next thing you know I'll be writing about the brick: "LUGO"

(fyi, I'm fixing it here for this reply.)

Good Luck & Thank You to Todd and Suzanne.
