  P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

I just uploaded pictures of my latest train creation. I modeled the P42DC Amtrac locomotive seen here: (URL) originally tried to duplicate the color scheme in that picture but it look so good. Instead I used the classic 4558 color scheme: (URL) (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains) !

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Also, the gears for the fans should be reversed when DCC control :) KL (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Oops, I just looked at an overhead picture of a real P42DC, and it apparently only has one fan. I'll have to delete the aft fan. KL (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

(...) ^^^...^^^ You mean *didn't* look so good, right? <grin> Nice job!! -Shiri (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Dude, you rock. This is an awesome model. Sound! Who'da thunk it... But this part about a custom plate I am not following. It looks to me like it's built up on a frame made from individual pieces. Am I missing something? Did you actually cut (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Very nice model, Kevin. Really cool. (...) fit in (...) no (...) Would removing the battery cover help a bit in getting the CP to fit inside? Mario (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

I think Kevin already cornered the market on the gray corregated bricks: (URL) Pieniazek <lpieniazek@mercator.com> wrote in message news:FwwMHu.H8F@lugnet.com... (...) <cut> (...) can (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Larry Pieniazek wrote in message ... (...) I will have to agree with Larry on this one, that does "rock". I didn't even know the Code Pilot had sound, very cool indeed! jt (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Maybe not... I built this car and another like it and have enough corrugated for 2 more (each car contains about 200 of them) AND I collected most of these *before* the SW sets came out ! (URL) (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

In lugnet.trains, John Neal writes: Too bad they don't have a 1x3 or 1x1 corregated brick so you could stager the bricks on the sides. I would think the middle of those cars are quite fragle. Do you put any kind of supports behind the sides? jt (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Nope. The problem is the buttons and the connectors. Removing the battery cover gains about a half a millimeter, where we ned almost a full brick width. KL (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) it's (...) The wagon plate is made of plates (including one 6x8 trap door frame plate for power connector access). (...) I probably have enough corrugated to make a third northeast direct style coach. What I really need is gray curve top (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

Excellent model, Kevin! Nice work. I've got to check my parts now to see how close I'll come to the 40 stud drop plate you designed... I seem to recall that when I saw this P42DC Amtrak engine in person last year, the single exhaust fan that you (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

(...) get (...) Exactly. When I saw one at the Manassas train show, it did look like it had two fans from the ground. It does in fact only have one fan, at the location of the forward one in my model. KL (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) It's not at all obvious from the external pictures. I'm going to build another one. I'll take some pictures as I go. KL (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Beautiful engine! Now I have a use for my Code Pilot as well! Imagine what can be done now with the GMLTC eight wides! Peter K Kevin Loch wrote in message ... (...) (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Kevin, Don't know if you had noticed, but there are 2 of part 6081 (2x4x1&1/3 brick with curved top) in gray in set 6617, Tough Truck Rally. A quick (though expensive) way to get it done. Regards, Andy Evans (24 years ago, 29-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Nope. Staggering looked bad, and stacking really hid the seams. Surprisingly, they weren't too fragile at all-- "weren't" being the operative word because they both have been scrapped for remodeling. I really don't like the 1x4x3 (...) (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Are you kidding? That's mostly what my kids did with it, the first day they got it. They'd build for awhile, then go off and program the Code Pilot Unit to play "Hot Cross Buns". Steve (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) See I learn something here on LUGNET everyday. I looked at the barcode truck but never found the interest to purchase one. Am I correct that the barcodes used by the Code Pilot aren't any of the standard bar codes? I would love to be able to (...) (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) Is there any way that an electrical plate could be helpful here? Perhaps you could use the plate to shift the motor output connector over a little bit and then hook it to the back side of an electrical plate. W- (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: P42DC Amtrak Loco with SOUND

(...) I too had this idea but on receipt of my first Code Pilot unit it would appear that 'reading' moving items such as trains might be a bit too tricky. Another idea is to pre-program the unit for use as a 'shuttle' which reverses direction when (...) (24 years ago, 30-Jun-00, to lugnet.trains)

Great work Kevin, What did you use for the latch on the door that hides the codepilot? I am not sure what you mean by "when the sensor reads in", did you find room for that special white gear thing? I tried, and tried on a coal tender, and finally (...) (24 years ago, 16-Jul-00, to lugnet.trains)
