the way I see it, is that you need the PC or the DCC throttle for addressing
of the decoders in the engines. They also allow you to choose the address
which controls the engine itself. I don't think the shell controller could
be capable of doing this, but it could be modified to have addressing
capabilities. Although it is easier to build a throttle from scratch than
to modify something already out there.
Anyway, so everyone, so please through in your 2 cents, it will all be
needed and taken seriously. I always use other modelers advice to build my
n-scale models, a so goes forth here.
