Hi!
I only have the 12V Trains, but I'm sure there are many people out there to
correct me where I go wrong or fill in the gaps :-)

The train sets come with a speed regulator and will run out of the box.
However I heard a rumour that there are plans to sell the trains WITHOUT speed
regulator so it could be that you need to buy this seperately. Can anyone
confirm this?

To hookup your cars you need to have magnet couplers. There are other designs
to connect cars (there was a discussion here about cars sharing a common wheel-
set for example) For cars to run on the track you would also need train stuff
like wheels, but from there on you can use whatever you like.

I think this is no problem. (In my own 12V set I had five trains on the same
track) I guess this will be no different with the new 9V trains.

Some cars have a big footprint, the wheels are able to turn freely from the
car (otherwise the construction is too firm to make the turns). The plate
connecting the wheelset to the carriage is the bogieplate (at least that is
what I gathered from discussions here)

You can equip your trains with headlights etc.

The 9V set doesn't include the goodies that the (2nd edition- gray track
instead of blue) 12V sets had:
Remote operated level crossing (set 7866)
Remote operated signal-posts (7860, it was possible to 'isolate' a piece of
track so a train would stop there while other trains keep going.
Remote operated switches (7858 & 7859)
Remote operated decoupler (7862)
It is possible to build some things (switches) with some LEGO technic stuff
for the 9V sets.

I think this is personal but I prefer the cargo railway. If you're able to
pickup some older passenger trains (7740 or 7745) and put a 9V motor and
replacement rails (9V doesn't connect to 12V rails) you get a nicer LEGO train-
set than the one available now. Then again this is a matter of personal
preference...
Ofcourse you can always create your own (D'Oh! isn't that what LEGO is all
about?)

You're welcome :-)
