  Frank's first LEGO train set

See (URL) someone can identify which set this is. Frank (20 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Dear Frank, from the dominatiog colour blue and the box design one can assume this to be a 111 set. And there is a less than 5% chance that this could be a 115 (which is basically the same but came with the 4.5V motor included). Th box design (...) (20 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) It had a 4.5V motor, so it sounds definitely like the 115. Yea, looking at your page, I'm now certain it's set 115. (...) Yes, that would be a much younger Frank Filz than this one: (URL) by my little sister's walking, I would guess this is (...) (20 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Frank- I love that old picture! Is there a chance that you received a 111 and a 107? I haven't seen pictures of a Samsonite version of 115 yet (but I'm still looking). Samsonite 111 pic here: (URL) 107 pic here: (URL) - Thought you might be (...) (20 years ago, 17-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Looking at the instructions bottom left, it certainly looks like the loco has the motor, and I'm pretty sure the 111 instructions didn't have that. ROSCO (20 years ago, 19-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

Didn't the motor equipped trains use the plate-w/motor-hole? You can clearly see 3 6x16 plates in the photo. Comparing the box art to Brickshelf's 111 they certainly look to be the same - not knowing what a 115 looks like :-( Matthias (20 years ago, 20-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Hi Eric, thanks for the links into your samsonite sets gallery - I wasn't aware about that cool resource and have bookmarked it immediately! I agree with your guess, that Frank might have had a 111 AND a 4.5V motorized set like 107 (or more (...) (20 years ago, 21-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Ben, I've done some further research - I just placed some scans of my 1968 Samsonite catalog online here: (URL) don't think that 100 or 103 were available in the USA so I'm still guessing 107 was the motorized set. Also interesting that 115 (...) (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) (Snip) (...) Thanks Eric, for pointing this out. I just wanted to check, if 107 was from 1976 or 1975 and now I saw first time in my life, that set number 107 has not only used twice but three times. I never saw the samsonite 107 so far (which (...) (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) OK, Here is a "teaser" cut/paste Train Info from my (still unfinished) Lego CD. (Still finishing up 1972-80 train info and 1949-56 early Lego sets). Enjoy Gary Istok P.S. Sometimes my years match the Lugnet DB, sometimes they don't. 1966-72 (...) (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Hi Gary, could you change this to (or something similar?): #118 Electronic Train (Forward-Stop) 1968 EU/UK #138 Electronic Train (F/B-Stop) 1968 EU #139 Electronic Control Unit (F/B-Stop) 1969 EU/UK #139A Electronic Control Unit (Forward-Stop) (...)   Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) OK, I forgot #107. This is the Reversible Power Unit, available in USA/Canada during the same time that #102 was available in Europe. They are basically the same set. In the 70's another #107 came out that was an updated motor set. Gary Istok (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) I'm going to verify at home tonight, but I have the 103 with the box and I'm quite sure it didn't come from EU (URL) have a boo at the box as well as the instructions... Dave K <snip> (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Hi Ben, I would be more than happy to do so. Lego Trains are not my main area of expertise, so I sometimes will need a little help from my Train friends here. Especially "Train Language" :-) Gary Istok (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Hey Dave, Yes please let us know. While doing my research on old Lego sets, I sometimes find that USA and Canada have the same sets. Then other times Canada will have some sets the same as Europe, but they are not found in the USA. Then other (...) (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) If I'm not mistaken I think my version of the USA castle actually says 6075 and 375 both. As a child this always intrigued me. I also checked recently and mine came with two of each visor included. I guess TLG figured we would lose these. Eric (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) It would be nice if LEGO never used the same set number twice, however that makes this fun. :) Eric (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) OK Eric, go check when you get home! :-) I have 10 #6075 (10! where the hell did he get 10! - from a 1983 Kmart sale for only $23 each) and they all say #6075. BUT the instructions all say #375/#6075 (Eric, that is what you might be thinking (...) (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Thanks Clark, I knew my list wasn't 100%. Eric Strand also mentioned to me the #080 largest basic set of the late 60's (known as #080 Ambassador Set under Samsonite in USA/Canada). The #080 is a hybrid basic set/train set. Maybe Ben would be a (...) (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Frank's first LEGO train set has been a 111

(...) Eric, I believe the 107 set came in two versions. The first version had a blue motor and battery box. The second version had a black motor & battery box (not currently listed on Lugnet as a separate set). The blue version came out in the 60's; (...) (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)

(...) THe gears didn't come with the set--they were just in the box when I got it--the instructions don't show them listed. I'm glad I got them, though--they're different than the gears in the other 2 old sets I have--these ones fit the old black (...) (20 years ago, 28-Feb-05, to lugnet.trains)
