Couldn't help but wonder - was this rail ferry replaced by the Great Belt Fixed
Link (Storebælt) between Funen and Zealand?

Not Henrik, but I can answer it too.

Yes M/F Dronning Ingrid (Motor-Ferry Queen Ingrid) and its two sister ships M/F
Prins Joachim (Prince Joachim) and M/F Kronprins Frederik (Chrownprince
Frederik) was sailing on the route between Funen and Zealand.

Railferrys have sailed on the great belt from 1883 to 1998. Today there is a
fixed link consisting of two bridges and a tunnel for the trains (they wouldn't
be able to take the climb on the tall suspension bridge).

Here is a diagram of the connection:

and some other photos:

The tunnel and the low bridge was finished a year before the tall bridge and
therefore the trains were no longer carried by the ferries in the last year they
sailed. The last sail with trains onboard was actually done by M/F Queen Ingrid
on the May 31, 1997

Here are some postcards, with some of the ferrys (both rail ferrys and car
ferrys) that have sailed this route. You can see their building years too. Some
of the oldest are steamers.

I had the opportunity to be in Denmark in June of 1998 during the time when it
was possible to walk across the East Bridge - the second longest suspension
bridge in the world.  I remember walking onto those ferries to get to the start
of the bridge walk each of the three days.  Then in the evening it was back onto
the ferry for the return trip.

I know the Great Belt Fixed Link also handles rail traffic and was just curious
if your ferry was located near here.

If you are referring to the real ferry, Henrik mentioned that it has been sold
to South Africa, to be used as a hospital ship. Its sisterships are now used
between Zealand and Rostock, Germany.

Some of the older ferrys have been sold to various places in the world. In the
summer 2003 I beliewe i spotted one of them on my vacation on Sicily, where it
has sailed on the Messina strait between mainland Italy and Sicily.

So, it is an important piece of Danish traffical history, that Henrik so nicely
have recreated in bricks.

Here is a private homepage with a nice picture on the frontpage with M/F Queen
Ingrid and its two sisterships and another car-ferry in the background, text is
in Danish only!
