a couple of questions, do you want to use the magnet as a coupler and what do
you mean by attatching a beam?

Beam - technic beam. Eg:

And then attaching the magnet to it.

Check. That sort of thing is often done by builders who are putting their trucks
somewhat inboard of the car ends so that the magnet can swivel freely and can
reach the car end to mate with the next car. Real cars body mount their couplers
in this case but of course we have nowhere near the radius to allow that.

Even better: by using this part: Technic Rotor 2 Blade with 2 Studs [LDrawPart 2711:7] you can achieve the desired 2,5 stud offset, by putting two Plates 1 x 1 Round under the part (one in the hole at one of the ends and the other right next to it) (...) (...) Agreed! This might be the way to do it. It is not strong, but you can add a 1/2 brick technic bush ((URL) ) there - that might do it. (...) Beam - technic beam. Eg: (URL) then attaching the magnet to it. BR S (21 years ago, 28-Nov-03, to lugnet.trains)
